The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has invited tenders for PPE stores in airports including Pune, Patna, Agartala, Amritsar, and Coimbatore. These stores will sell PPE for travelers including face masks, disposable gloves, disposable goggles, coveralls, gowns, and sanitisers. Goods will follow the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s safety guidelines.
These stores could be operational from as soon as June and products should be priced affordably for travelers. The outlets would be located in various parts of the airports such as at arrival and departure areas as both those travelling from and to India may require PPE. They should also accept card and digital payments.
The pan-India lockdown is currently scheduled to run until May 18, although a number of businesses have been allowed to partially reopen under extended lockdown regulations. The Government of India currently plans to restart flights gradually from May 17. A team of organizations including the AAI recently examined the level of preparedness at Delhi airport.
