Levi’s diversifies into premium lifestyle brand in India; expands into women’s apparel

Levi Strauss & Co is aggressively diversifying its retail presence in India. The brand is shifting its strategic focus from a heritage denim-bottoms manufacturer to a comprehensive premium lifestyle brand. While jeans remain the cornerstone of its identity, the company is prioritizing rapid expansion into women’s apparel and total-look outfit solutions. This strategic evolution is clearly visible in the brand’s newer, large-format retail footprints, such as the 5,197-sq-ft flagship in Mumbai, which emphasizes head-to-toe styling rather than just denim.

Immersive retail and digital integration

The brand is doubling down on a direct-to-consumer (DTC) model to capture India’s growing middle-class spending power. By deploying larger, experience-driven stores that feature in-house tailoring services, Levi’s is moving away from purely transactional sales to building an immersive, long-term relationship with the urban consumer. Hiren Gor, General Manager - South Asia, noted that these spaces are designed to reflect the evolving expectations of contemporary shoppers who demand both personalization and consistent brand storytelling. This approach is further supported by an integrated omnichannel framework that seamlessly bridges the brand’s digital storefronts with its physical retail presence, ensuring that the brand experience remains uniform across platforms.

Ensuring premium retail experiences through physical and digital expansion

Founded in 1853, San Francisco-based Levi Strauss & Co. is a global leader in denim and apparel. The company markets a portfolio of brands, including Levi’s, Dockers, and Beyond Yoga. Entering India in 1994, it focuses on premium retail experiences, currently scaling its presence through strategic store expansion and e-commerce.
