LFW showcases collections by five designers at Khadi India show

Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) showcased the versatility of India's iconic fabric, Khadi through the creative visions of five designers at the Khadi India show. Held in collaboration with FDCI, the show highlighted the Council’s dedication to promoting Indian textiles globally.
The‘Samantar II’ collection by designer Karishma Shahani Khan for her ‘Ka-Sha’ label explored the cyclical nature of trends, using Khadi and Kala cotton in a restricted palette of black, white, and gold. Her designs featured geometric appliqués, embroidery, and patchwork, with deconstructed, comfortable silhouettes that offered reversible options and unisex appeal.
Designer Nikasha Tawadey's ‘Mahboob’ collection celebrated Khadi's artisanal heritage, blending it with contemporary weaving techniques. Her fluid drapes and intricate detailing showcased Khadi's timeless elegance, positioning it as a modern, fashionable fabric.
Niki Mahajan presented a bold fusion of Baroque and French brocades with Khadi's raw, earthy texture. Her colorful collection, opened by TV star Shalin Bhanot, featured feminine silhouettes with luxurious pleats and gathers, creating a dramatic formal appeal.
A collaboration between KVIC and NIFT, the Centre of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK) reimagined Khadi for contemporary elegance. Featuring fabrics sourced from across India, their collection highlighted Khadi's sustainable, hand-spun beauty and its appeal to global consumers. The women's wear line blended Indian craftsmanship with global sensibilities, showcasing Khadi's versatility in cotton, wool, and Eri silk.
These collections collectively demonstrated Khadi's adaptability and its potential to resonate with both national and international audiences, emphasizing its role in sustainable and stylish fashion.
