Fashion designer and handloom entrepreneur Robert Naorem showcased Manipur’s rich textile heritage at the Milan Fashion Week.

Alongwith ten designers from ten different countries, Naorem represented India at this exclusive international fashion show in Milan, Italy. His collection, titled ‘Manipur,’ paid a tribute to the cultural and artistic identity of his home state. Its designs featured the state emblem, local animals, flowers, birds, and traditional Meitei scripts, all signature elements of his brand, RN Designs.

Reviving the state’s rich handloom traditions, Naorem also promoted sustainable fashion at the event as he highlighted Manipur’s beautifully woven silks enhanced with detailed hand embroidery, designed for the international market.

Combining tradition with modern style, the collection included original traditional clothing, Indian sarees, and Western-style silhouettes. Made from Manipur’s signature fabrics, these garments were presented in a refined palette of black, cream, and ivory, appealing to both those who appreciate heritage and those who follow contemporary fashion.

Adding to the cultural impact of the event, Manipur artist Suchitra Wangkhem walked the runway alongside 15 models, accompanied by the soulful music of Mangka. The showcase emphasized the deep-rooted artistic essence and craftsmanship of Manipur.
