Value fashion powerhouse Citykart has officially entered the Rajasthan market, inaugurating its first-ever flagship in Udaipur as a part of a three-store blitz that also included new outlets in Raniganj and Dumraon, Bihar. This expansion marks a significant milestone in the brand’s ‘City Fortification’ strategy, which prioritizes high-density Tier-II and Tier-III clusters. The launch comes on the heels of a massive Rs 538 crore Series B funding round led by TPG NewQuest and A91 Partners, providing the capital to accelerate Citykart’s target of reaching 300 stores by 2026-end.

Capitalizing on the ‘Bharat Growth’

Citykart’s entry into Udaipur aligns with a broader industry shift labeled the ‘Bharat Growth,’ where demand in smaller urban centers is outstripping growth in traditional metros. With India’s value retail segment projected to maintain a double-digit CAGR through 2026, Citykart is leveraging its robust supply chain to keep 80 per cent of its inventory priced under Rs 799. This model has proven resilient against inflationary pressures; the company is currently on track to exceed Rs 1,000 crore in annual revenue by the close of the FY25–26. Our focus remains on serving underserved families who seek aspirational fashion without the premium price tag, stated a company representative during the launch.

Operational scaling and employment multiplier

The triple-store inauguration is expected to generate approximately 150 direct jobs, contributing to the brand's goal of creating up to 1,000 new employment opportunities this fiscal year. Despite challenges such as rising commercial rentals and fierce competition from Tata’s Zudio and Reliance’s Yousta, Citykart maintains a competitive edge through its diverse product mix, which now includes 25 per cent non-apparel categories like household goods and cosmetics. By anchoring in high-visibility regional hubs, the brand is successfully converting local footfall into long-term loyalty, reporting a customer base that has recently crossed 1.7 crore shoppers.

Citykart is one of India’s fastest-growing value retailers, specializing in family fashion, footwear, and home needs. Founded in 2015 and headquartered in Gurugram, the brand operates over 150 stores across 13 states, focusing on budget-conscious Tier-II and III markets. With strong backing from TPG and A91 Partners, the company is currently scaling its footprint to become a dominant national player in the affordable lifestyle segment.
