In a powerful display of cross-cultural synergy, Russian designer Fatima Shogenova, founder of the label Hatsibana, made a compelling debut at Lakmē Fashion Week (LFW) in partnership with FDCI.
Presented as part of the ongoing designer exchange program with the Russian Fashion Council, Shogenova’s collection, titled “Amazon,” stood out as a vivid testament to female strength, melding fine art with structured, sophisticated design.
This highly anticipated showcase was a direct result of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI)’s robust designer exchange program with the Russian Fashion Council, an initiative aimed at fostering global dialogue and cultural understanding through textiles and design.
The FDCI's role emphasizes its mission to position Indian fashion within a global context while celebrating international creativity.
Commenting on the significance of the collaboration, Sunil Sethi, Chairman, FDCI, stated, “At FDCI, we see cultural exchange as a vital part of our mission to position Indian fashion within a global dialogue.
Our partnership with the Russian Fashion Council celebrates creativity, diversity, and mutual respect between our industries. We are delighted to welcome Fatima Shogenova and her evocative showcase this season.”
The collection drew its profound inspiration from the artwork of Ruslan Shameev, translating bold brushstrokes and rich symbolism into wearable narratives. Shogenova’s vision centers on the concept of the “modern warrior woman,” crafting pieces that balance inherent power with effortless grace.
This artistic foundation gave the entire showcase a gallery-like depth, where clothing served as a canvas for cultural dialogue.
On the runway, the “Amazon” collection captivated with its dramatic silhouettes and intricate detailing. Key ensembles included intricately handcrafted jackets adorned with arresting graphic prints, echoing the abstract elements found in Shameev’s painting.
These were paired with long dresses featuring delicate embroidery, highlighting a meticulous commitment to craftsmanship.
Shogenova’s use of structured pieces, notably striking corsets and garments with unique sleeve designs, brought a refined architectural quality to the traditional feminine form.
The palette was grounded in earthy yet regal tones, perfectly capturing the spirit of a fierce elegance.
Deep ochre, rich burgundy, forest green, dark blue, and opulent gold dominated the collection, giving it a weight and maturity ideal for contemporary occasion wear.
By blending classic tailoring with such eclectic artistic influences, Fatima Shogenova successfully cemented Hatsibana’s presence in the global fashion conversation, proving that the language of design is truly universal.
