Value fashion retailer V-Bazaar has announced a major workforce expansion, aiming to increase its total headcount to 10,000 within the next four years. This initiative represents a 2.5-fold increase from its current strength of approximately 3,600 employees. The recruitment drive is fundamentally linked to the company’s roadmap to scale its footprint to over 250 outlets. By focusing on Tier-III and Tier-IV markets, the retailer is positioning itself to capture consistent demand in regions where organized retail penetration remains low but consumer aspirations are rising.
Operational synergies through cluster-based growth
The company is utilizing a ‘cluster-based approach’ for its logistical and sales network, where established stores provide operational support to new locations in nearby vicinities. Each new store typically generates between 35 and 40 direct jobs, alongside significant indirect employment in local logistics and service sectors. Our focus is on building robust ground teams as we enter new markets, stated Hemant Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director. To ensure service quality, the company is also on-boarding management trainees from premier fashion and management institutes to lead these regional teams.
Navigating competition in the value segment
V-Bazaar's aggressive physical expansion comes as digital competitors like Amazon Bazaar scale their presence in the sub-Rs 600 fashion category. However, V-Bazaar continues to prioritize its brick-and-mortar presence, maintaining an average store size of 7,700 to 8,500 sq ft to offer a mall-like experience. Despite broader retail headwinds, the brand reported a revenue range of Rs 500–750 crore for FY25, supported by a disciplined investment model of Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 crore per new store. The company expects these investments to achieve operational payback within a 1.5 to 2-year window.
