Karnataka permits to operate at 50% capacity

The Karnataka Government has allowed garment units to operate at half their capacity responding to demands from the sector which employs about eight lakh workers in Bengaluru.

As per Economic Times, the April 26 notification had allowed the manufacturing, construction and agriculture sector to operate during the 14-day lockdown which took effect on Tuesday night.

Garment units had told the government that they have strict export commitments to European markets, defaults of which would result in penalties. And, if they failed to meet delivery schedules to foreign buyers, they might divert orders to countries like Bangladesh and may deny them future orders as well.

Since most garment units are on the outskirts of it is unclear how workers will travel as most of them are women and regular users of public transport.
