ICC buyer seller meet gets a huge response from international buyers

Textiles, apparels, garments, and Khadi witnessed a huge response from international buyers in the first day of the innovative Virtual Buyer Seller Meet organized by the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

The three-day global online L2G (local to global) exhibition for Indian textile sector products under AtmaNirbhar Bharat Campaign, showcased anexquisite collection of Indian textiles by MSMEs to the global diaspora of buyers.

The inaugural session was graced by SadhanPande, State Minister-in-Charge, Self Help Group and Self Employment Department, as the Chief Guest who reinforced the importance of production in increasing earnings.

DrAmanPuri, Consul General Consulate General of India, Dubai, UAE said that a niche has been created for exports in Dubai and that the Dubai consulate is looking forward to supporting Indian exporters in the textile sector.

Special Guest, Dr. Srikar K. Reddy, Joint Secretary (WANA) Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India stated that textiles exports stood at $ 39 billion in 2019-20 contributing significantly to overall trade and that cooperation with the African and Middle Eastern nations can boost textile exports further.

Dir Van Den Berghe quits as Walmart Asia CEO

Dirk Van Den Berghe has quit as the CEO of Walmat-Asia, and is also likely to resign from Flipkart’s board of members. Having joined Walmart in 2014 as CEO of the Canada region, Berghe also served as the chief executive of Walmart China. His stint as CEO of Asia included overseeing the company’s growth in India, China and Japan besides focusing on global sourcing.

He also led the Walmart’s $16 billion investment in Flipkart in 2018, which gave it a 77 per cent stake in the homegrown etailer. Earlier this month, Flipkart cofounder Binny Bansal was named as a board member of PhonePe, after the digital payments company was spun off from its parent e-commerce firm. PhonePe cofounders Sameer Nigam and Rahul Chari were also named as board members. Bansal remains a member on the Flipkart's board and is also a shareholder.

Big Bazaar to open 16 more stores

India’s largest hypermarket chain Big Bazaar plans to open 16 more stores across the country to take its total store count to 300. The Future Retail-owned retail chain will expand into Tier-II cities in India. It currently operates 284 stores in over 100 cities.

Future Group-owned Future Retail is still on the path to recovery. It has not fully recovered to its normal state as there are some behavior changes on part of consumers also. Chains such as Big Bazaar have adopted digital modes, using shopping apps, WhatsApp, and even phones to get orders and get them delivered to the doorsteps.

The company has also adopted concepts as 'pick up at stores'. Last week, it opened its seventh store in Lucknow.

The hypermarket chain operates multiple stores in several Tier-II cities. It operates six stores in Bhubaneswar, five in Patna, four in Nagpur and Jaipur, and three stores each in cities such as Baroda, and Ranchi Nasik.

Myntra launches new campaign to promote EORS

Page Industries re-certifies Bengaluru unit

Exclusive licensee of Jockey International Inc, Page Industries has recertified its manufacturing Unit-3 at Bengaluru India. The unit was audited by Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP) as per standard procedures in October 2020. The audit showed that the Unit-3 continues to maintain socially compliant systems and allegations made Council on Ethics for the Norges Bank are not substantiated by the findings of the audit.

India Fashion Awards to hold second edition in February 2021

Amazon Fashion India makes leadership changes

Amazon Fashion India is making certain leadership changes within the company. The e-tailer has appointed Saurabh Srivastava as its new head as its current head Arun Sirdeshmukh has quit the company.

Similarly, the e-commerce major has transferred Puneet Gupta, Category Leader-Men, Women and Kids apparels to another position within the company. Since long, it has been trying to catch up with Flipkart and Myntra in the fashion vertical, one of the biggest categories leading the e-commerce charge in India.

Currently, Amazon Fashion offers stylish clothes, shoes, and accessories for men and women. It offers everything from kid’s backpacks to snow boots, plus everyday essentials for baby.

Analyst Bain & Co expects India’s e-retail business to increase by 30 per cent annually over the next five years to touch $100-120 billion. According to them, fashion will play an important role in this growth and chart similar trajectories in China and the US.

Amazon Fashion India makes leadership changes

Tata Westside to open maiden store in Greater Noida

As per a Business Standard report, Tata Westside will open its maiden store at the Galaxy Blue Sapphire Plaza (GBS) in Greater Noida. With the addition of Westside, a fashion retail outlet.The store will cater to the increasing populace of Greater Noida West that had to move out to nearby areas for their apparel needs. The store will be spread over an area of around 21,000 sq. ft. GBS by Galaxy & Sawasdee Group of Companies is an elite commercial project comprising of approximately 1.2 million sq. ft, and 7 lakh sqft retail area.

Arvind Ltd appoints MohitDhanjal as new CEO of Sephora

MohitDhanjal has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the Sephora brand at Arvind Ltd.

Dhanjal was earlier the business head at Raymond. An experienced business leader with over 25 years of work experience in multi-sectoral industries, he has been instrumental in crafting retail strategies, developing concepts and implementing operational tools.

Dhanjal has also held leadership roles in various organisations such as Unilever, TATA Teleservices, ITC, Color Plus and Taj Group of Hotels.

Dhanjal completed his graduation from the Institute of Hotel Management (IHM) in Hyderabad and has completed his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology, Political Science and Public Administration from Osmania University. He has also completed various courses in Retailing and Retailing Operations from Happiness University (Hamburg) and Purpose Driven Leadership Program from Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (NY).
