OVS expands Indian footprint to establish key global market hub

Italian apparel major OVS is accelerating its physical retail presence across India, targeting seven stores by the end of 2027 and setting a long-term goal of 25 to 40 outlets within five to seven years. Following the launch of its largest 12,400 sq. ft. flagship at Mumbai's R City Mall, the company is positioning India to become its primary commercial subsidiary outside Italy. The brick-and-mortar push focuses on tier-one urban fashion hubs to capture rising consumer appetite for international apparel.

Operational model and revenue Strategy

To build sustainable market share, OVS projects that physical storefronts will generate approximately 85 percent of total domestic revenue, with a dedicated e-commerce platform—launching by Spring/Summer 2027 - contributing the remaining 12 to 15 per cent. While high prime real estate costs present operational overheads, the multi-format strategy optimizes customer lifetime value through diverse brand lines like PIOMBO, Les Copains, and MYA curvewear.

India has to be the number one subsidiary outside Italy. The intent is to open anywhere between 25 to 40 stores over a period of the next five to seven years," stated Sundeep Chugh, Managing Director, OVS India.

Sector dynamics and competitive positioning

The Indian fast-fashion and lifestyle landscape remains highly competitive, driven by rapid urban expansion and global brand entries. OVS differentiates itself by combining European design aesthetics with sustainable cotton sourcing. A case study of its store performance demonstrates that flagship locations housing womenswear, menswear, and kidswear together drive significantly higher footfall and cross-category basket sizes.

Targeting major retail hubs across India

OVS is Italy’s leading apparel retailer, offering womenswear, menswear, and children's collections across international markets. First entering India in 2025, the brand targets major metro retail hubs.
