Aarti Vijay Gupta unveils ‘Kalighat Stories’ with Liva at London Fashion Week

04 March 2025, Mumbai
Renowned designer Aarti Vijay Gupta redefined sustainable fashion at London Fashion Week with her latest collection, Kalighat Stories, for FW25. In collaboration with Liva’s eco-friendly fabrics, Gupta blended heritage with innovation, bringing India’s rich artistic traditions to the global stage.
Crafted from Liva Reviva Fabrics made with up to 30 per cent recycled textile waste and FSC-certified wood pulp the collection championed sustainability without sacrificing fluidity or versatility. The breathable fabrics allowed Gupta to translate intricate artistry into contemporary fashion, reinforcing the importance of responsible design.
Drawing inspiration from Kolkata’s historic Kalighat and Patua traditions, Kalighat Stories celebrated India’s storytelling heritage. Midnapore’s famed scroll paintings were incorporated alongside ‘Patua Feet,’ a vibrant depiction of music, mythology, and daily life. Gupta seamlessly merged traditional craftsmanship with modern aesthetics, creating a collection that bridges history and innovation.
The runway showcased 35 distinct menswear and womenswear looks, featuring fluid drapes, structured layering, and earthy hues with muted pastels. Intricate prints and handcrafted details added depth, highlighting the versatility of Liva’s sustainable textiles.
Sree Charan, VP Marketing, Global Head - Brands, Birla Cellulose, Aditya Birla Group, expressed pride in the collaboration, stating, “Aarti Vijay Gupta’s ability to integrate heritage art with contemporary design using Liva’s sustainable fabrics aligns with our vision of responsible fashion. Together, we are redefining luxury with purpose.”
Gupta emphasized her mission, saying, “Traditional artists are often overlooked in global fashion. By working with Liva Reviva, I was able to honor Indian heritage while embracing sustainability. The future of fashion lies in merging tradition with innovation.”
Liva’s commitment to conscious design continues to drive industry change, supporting designers in creating meaningful, sustainable fashion for a responsible future.
