As per the 28th edition of the Retail Business Survey by the Retailers Association of India, retail sales grew by 24 percent during May 2022 as compared to pre-pandemic levels with categories such as garments and footwear gaining momentum owing to the increasing pace of socialization.
Sales in West India grew by 30 percent, whereas in East India grew by 29 percent, as per the report. The South India region grew by 22 percent while North India grew by 16 percent.
Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, of Retailers Association of India (RAI), says, categories such as garments and footwear performed well on account of the ongoing wedding season and due to the resumption of work from an office.
Concerns over inflation continue to exist, however, as of now, customers seem willing to come out and shop.
With outdoor activities picking up, categories such as Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) and Footwear are indicating rapid growth while categories such as Beauty and Wellness have also started to pick up.
