Union Minister approves 19 technical textile research projects worth Rs 21 crore

In a significant move under the National Technical Textiles Mission, the Mission Steering Group, chaired by the Union Minister of Textiles, has approved 19 research projects valued at approximately Rs 21 crore. These projects span key strategic areas including composites, geo textiles, smart textiles, and machinery, reflecting a comprehensive approach to advancing the technical textiles sector.
The 9th Mission Steering Group meeting saw proposals from prestigious institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology, National Institute of Technology, and the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research being greenlit. These projects aim to foster innovation and development across various technical textile applications.
Additionally, the Union Minister reviewed ongoing progress in research and development, market promotion, export promotion, education, and skill development initiatives under the Mission. A total of 27 applications from 16 public and 11 private institutes were assessed, focusing on introducing technical textile courses, enhancing lab infrastructure, and training trainers.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures, including members of NITI Aayog, the Principal Scientific Adviser, the Chairman of ISRO, and senior officials from various ministries and industry associations. This collaborative effort underscores the government's commitment to advancing the technical textiles industry in India.
