Aditya Birla Group to transform four flagship brands into billion-dollar companies

26 June, Mumbai 2025

In a significant move to reshape India's fashion landscape, the Aditya Birla Group has set an ambitious goal to transform four of its flagship lifestyle brands – Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, and Peter England – into billion-dollar companies within the next decade. This aspirational target is fueled by India's increasing fashion awareness, rising discretionary incomes, and a structural shift from unbranded to branded apparel.

While international fashion powerhouses like Louis Vuitton, Nike, Chanel, and Adidas have already achieved multi-billion-dollar status, no Indian fashion house has reached this milestone yet. Currently, Louis Philippe and Van Heusen each generate over Rs. 2,000 crore (approximately $232 million) in annual sales, while Allen Solly and Peter England each exceed Rs. 1,000 crore (approximately $116 million). To put this in perspective, Gautam Singhania-owned Raymond has annual sales over Rs 3,000 crore (approximately $349 million).

Aditya Birla's foray into fashion began in 1999 with the acquisition of these four brands from the British company Coats. Since then, the group's fashion business has undergone several structural changes, evolving from Indian Rayon to Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, and most recently, debuting as Aditya Birla Lifestyle Brands on the stock market earlier this week.

Articulating their vision to create ‘India’s first portfolio of fashion and lifestyle billion-dollar brands,’ Kumar Mangalam, Group Chairman emphasizes on the desire to elevate domestic brands to international standards. Though originally focused on menswear, all four brands have strategically expanded into womenswear, footwear, handbags, and accessories to tap into a broader consumer base.

With the Indian fashion market projected to grow to $170 billion by 2030 - a 1.5-fold increase from its current size - the Aditya Birla Group sees immense potential for expansion. The company believes, e global preference for branded clothing presents an ‘incredible opportunity’ for its lifestyle business to achieve worldwide scale.
