Europe, one of the most significant export markets for Indian garments, has prioritized sustainability as its topmost concern. The European Commission's climate change strategy aims to make the continent a net-zero greenhouse gas emitter and achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

What all you need to know

As a result, the EU Green Deal has placed a significant burden on importers to obtain goods from environmentally sustainable countries/suppliers. The introduction of a "sustainable products" policy, which aims to reduce material waste and promote reuse and recycling, particularly in the textiles industry, is also on the horizon.

With the European Green Deal coming into effect in 2026, India must prepare itself for this shift in focus, and sustainability is no longer a choice.

In response to the changing global mindset, AEPC has taken its AISA (Apparel Industry Sustainability Action) initiative to the next level by inviting participation in its Sustainability Marathon from May 5th to 26th/27th, 2023, in collaboration with the Brands and Sourcing Leaders Association (BSL).

The Marathon will consist of a series of roadshows in five prominent garment clusters across India, including Tirupur, Mumbai, Bangalore, Jaipur, and Delhi-NCR.

The aim of these roadshows is to assess the current sustainability status across these clusters, give AEPC members the opportunity to showcase their sustainability measures to iconic and reputable brands, document the best sustainability practices across India for presentation to global buyers and brands, and have a policy dialogue with the government for suitable policy interventions to support MSMEs in the face of the changing scenario.

You are all invited to nominate yourselves for the AEPC-BSL Sustainability Excellence Awards and participate actively in these roadshows according to the event calendar below.
