Hong Fu Industrial Group opens Rs 1,500-crore footwear facility in Tamil Nadu

Foraying into the Indian market, Taiwanese non-leather footwear manufacturer Hong Fu Industrial Group has opened a Rs 1,500-crore (~$176.65 million) facility at the Sipcot Industrial Park in Panapakkam, Tamil Nadu.
To create 25,000 jobs, this upcoming Grand Atlantia unit will begin operations by January 2026. Around 85 per cent of the workforce of this facility is likely to be women. Hong Fu is the world’s second-largest producer of non-leather athletic footwear and a supplier to leading global brands, including Nike, Under Armour, Converse, Vans, Reebok, UGG, Puma, Adidas, HOKA, and ON.
The company has signed two MoUs for its investments in Tamil Nadu. Signed in April 2022, the first of these investments totaled Rs 1,000 crore while agreement for an aadditional Rs 500-crore investment was signed in January 2024.
This project further cements Tamil Nadu’s reputation as a hub for footwear manufacturing and demonstrates the state’s ability to attract significant foreign investment.
So far, Tamil Nadu has attracted investments worth Rs 6.550 crore in footwear sector, creating 86,150 jobs in the districts of Perambur, Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur and Ranipet, as per MK Stalin, Chief Minister.
