India overtook Indonesia in garment exports to the world's largest clothing market for the first time in 2021, according to official US apparel import statistics. In 2021, India's garment exports to the United States totaled US $ 4.19 billion, outperforming Indonesia's performance of US $ 4.14 billion in apparel exports to the United States.
India's garment exports were $4.05 billion in 2019, with a $339 million deficit between them and Indonesia's shipment. In 2020, a pandemic-induced year, the difference widened to the US $ 495.17 million.
However, India's garment export sector remained resilient and surpassed its own exports to the United States throughout 2021, bolstered by robust orders and a resurgence in the global retail business.

India's growth rate remains the highest (38.92%) among the top five apparel exporting countries to the United States in 2021, followed by Bangladesh (up 36.70%), China (up 29.40%), Indonesia (up 17.92%), and Vietnam (up 17.92%). (up 14.33 percent ).
India's primary clothing export market performed well in 2021, resulting in a 24 percent year-on-year increase in apparel export values of US $ 15.21 billion.
