Despite COVID-19 led disruptions, sales of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) grew four times to Rs 3,079 crore during the financial year 2020-21. The commission attributes this growth to an increase in number of Khadi institutions and artisans across the country coupled with orders from the government.
KVIC received a lot of government orders last year. During the period, it also launched online sales to support its growth. Moreover, the commission adopted an aggressive marketing plan at outlets to boost sale of local products says, Vinai Kumar Saxena, Chairman, KVIC. The commission added over 527 new Khadi institutions and distributed over 50,000 new charkhas and around 10,000 looms during the year. This year too, KVIC aims to continue its expansion plans post lifting of the lockdown.
KVIC retails a range of handloom garments and accessories, as well as personal care and lifestyle goods, all made in India. It is part of the Union Government’s promotion of sustainable, India-made products as part of its wider ‘Make in India’ campaign to increase domestic production and consumption.
