Reliance has entered into a 50:50 joint venture with Israel-based apparel company Delta Galil, one of the world’s leading innerwear manufacturers, to design, produce, and sell lingerie products in India.

Established in 1975, Delta Galilis the global license-holder for some of the biggest names in fashion, including Calvin Klein, Tommy Hilfiger, and Columbia. It has also recently secured partnerships with Adidas and Polo Ralph Lauren. The Indian joint venture will produce lingerie for Reliance’s existing brands while also introducing Delta’s international labels, such as 7 For All Mankind and Necessities, to the Indian market.

Delta Galil operates three R&D centers, focusing on fabric innovation in Israel, performance socks in Oregon, and bras in China. The company has a strong intellectual property portfolio, with seven registered patents, 12 pending patents, and eight active technology trademarks.

Over the past few years, Reliance has expanded its presence in the innerwear market by acquiring brands like Clovia, Zivame, and Amante, which together generated over Rs2,000 crore in sales for FY24. In addition to these acquisitions, Reliance sells its private label innerwear through Reliance Trends and has joint ventures with international brands Marks & Spencer and Hunkemoller.

The innerwear market in India has seen significant growth, reaching Rs 61,091 crore in 2023, according to Wazir Advisors. The market is expected to grow to Rs75,466 crore by 2025, with women’s innerwear commanding 60 per cent of the total market, followed by men’s innerwear at 30 per cent, and the remainder in kids’ wear.

Driven by higher disposable incomes and an increasing demand for stylish yet comfortable products, the mid and premium women’s innerwear segments are set to grow rapidly, says, Pakhi Saxena, Head - Retail and Consumer Goods, Wazir Advisors. The men’s segment is also expanding due to evolving fashion consciousness and a focus on comfort, she adds.

The branded innerwear market in India is dominated by 5-6 leading brands, which together hold 50 per cent of the market share. Reliance has positioned itself across price points, offering mass-market brands like Hush, mass-premium options like Clovia and Zivame, and premium labels such as Amante, Marks & Spencer, and Hunkemoller.
