23 January 2025, Mumbai

In the rapidly evolving landscape of Indian e-commerce, speed is becoming the new currency. Borzo, a global leader in same-day delivery, has released compelling findings on how this trend is transforming the industry, impacting both businesses and consumers. Their data reveals a growing demand for instant gratification, with significant implications for online retailers, particularly in the fashion and apparel sector.

"We're seeing a clear shift in consumer expectations," says Akhil Goel, Borzo India CEO. "Customers are no longer satisfied with waiting days or even weeks for their orders. Same-day delivery is no longer a luxury, it's becoming the norm, especially when it comes to fashion."

Fashion leads same-day delivery

Borzo's data reveals the fashion and apparel industry is at the forefront of the same-day delivery revolution. In cities like Delhi, where fashion consciousness is high, clothes are the most popular category for same-day delivery, accounting for 31.2 per cent of all orders. This aligns with Borzo's findings that 75 per cent of their orders assist MSMEs and e-commerce brands, many of which operate in the fashion and apparel sector. "Fashion is inherently driven by trends and impulse buys," explains Goel. "Consumers want latest styles delivered quickly, and same-day delivery fulfills that desire."

Emerging trends in same day delivery

Significant growth in same-day delivery orders: Borzo reported a 2x year-on-year increase in deliveries in 2022 compared to 2021, indicating a rapid rise in same-day delivery adoption.

Increased average order value (same-day): Customers are willing to spend more when same-day delivery is an option, leading to higher average order values for businesses.

High customer satisfaction (same-day): Same-day delivery contributes to a positive customer experience, resulting in higher satisfaction rates.

Strong repeat purchase rate (same-day): Customers who experience the convenience of same-day delivery are more likely to become repeat customers.

Interestingly, Borzo's operational data across India shows distinct city-specific trends. Delhi leads in same-day delivery for fashion and apparel, driven by a young and trend-conscious population. Mumbai shows a strong preference for same-day delivery of food and groceries, reflecting the city's fast-paced lifestyle. Bengaluru has high demand for document delivery, likely due to its status as a major business hub.

Borzo's research highlights that the benefits of same-day delivery extend beyond mere speed. It's about creating a seamless and satisfying customer experience that fosters loyalty and drives growth. Firs it reduced cart abandonment. That is the instant gratification of same-day delivery encourages customers to complete their purchases, reducing the likelihood of abandoned shopping carts. Increased customer lifetime value, by exceeding expectations with fast and reliable delivery, businesses can cultivate stronger customer relationships and encourage repeat purchases. And in the age of instant reviews and social media, positive delivery experiences can significantly boost a brand's reputation and attract new customers.

The findings show, as e-commerce continues to grow in India, same-day delivery is expected to become even more critical. It underscore the need for businesses to adapt and invest in efficient delivery solutions to meet the evolving demands of their customers. "We believe same-day delivery will be a key differentiator for e-commerce businesses in the years to come," says Goel. "Borzo is committed to providing innovative and reliable solutions that empower businesses to thrive in this fast-paced environment."
