The collection presented by designer Nitin Bal Chauhan on the first day of digital Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week was inspired by the Jallian Wala Bagh Massacre and mixed Victorian-style pomposity with modern, gothic subversion. The dynamic and dark collection included a dress made of metal rings, regency-style red tailored jackets, and pastel pink suits. It was accompanied by a thought-provoking video titled ‘Naevus’.
Despite its dramatic nature, the collection included a large number of wearable items including jackets and printed suits. It featured exaggerated collars and cuffs in white contrasted with metal hardware mouth gags and abstract, brutal makeup and face paint. Models on the ramp twirled around to show 360 degree detailing of the garments. The garments were painted with haunting illustrations and Chauhan’s signature 3D embroidery. Chauhan created a series of illustrations for the collection himself in charcoal with abstract, yet expressive shading.
Nitin Bal Chauhan retails his eponymous brand in multi-brand stores in Delhi, Tokyo, London, and Dubai, according to his Instagram. The designer was originally planning to showcase Naevus in March at LMIFW, but the show was postponed due to coronavirus.
