15 March 2022, Mumbai:
India’s retail business grew 10 percent in February this year compared to the same month last year, as per the latest survey by the Retailers Association of India,( RAI ).
Sales in West India grew 16 percent against the same month last year while in East India it grew 4 percent and North India sales grew 17 percent as compared to February last year.
Similarly, sales in South India grew 4 percent against February last year, it added. Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI, said, the growth shown is not adjusted to inflation and some categories may not get back quantitative growth.
Categories such as consumer durables and electronics, food and groceries, and QSR may grow 28 percent, 19 percent, and 16 percent, respectively. Apparels and footwear categories may also grow in double digits, he adds.
However, inflation and the war situation in Ukraine may impact business positivity, Rajagopalan warns.
