IKEA to boost sourcing from India to 50% of global supply: Trade Minister, Sweden

India's push to boost its manufacturing sector's contribution to the country's GDP aligns with Sweden's partnership efforts, states Dousa. IKEA aims to amplify local sourcing from India to 50 per cent for its global operations, up from the current 30 per cent, he adds.

IKEA's current sourcing includes a range of products such as textiles, plastics, and metals, with plans to expand this basket to include more items.

Currently, Europe serves as IKEA's largest supplier, followed by the Americas and then Asia, where China holds the leading position.

IKEA has been sourcing products from India for the past five decades. The company officially began its retail operations in India in 2018, opening its first store in Hyderabad, followed by locations in Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru. Several other stores, including those in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR), are currently in the development pipeline.
