The state of Assam in India is promoting Khadi

16 February 2022, Mumbai:

Assam has launched a number of attempts to promote Khadi-based clothes as part of its ongoing efforts. The State's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has asked people to wear Khadi clothes as much as possible in order to increase its popularity.

The Chief Minister has also directed the Assam Khadi and Village Industries Board to research the mechanisms used by other states, such as Gujarat, in order to make khadi more feasible and profitable.

The CM also distributed Khadi shirts and stoles to the State Government's Grade-IV employees as part of the government's efforts to promote Khadi.

Assam will attempt to establish a distinct brand of Khadi made in the state. "Khadi can play a significant role in developing an Atma Nirbhar Bharat," the chief minister stated.

On the occasion, UG Brahma, Minister of Handloom, Textile, and Sericulture, Dr. Kamala Kalita, Chairman of the Khadi and Village Industries Board, and other high officials were present. Handloom and Khadi production are particularly strong in Assam, a prominent state in the NorthEast Region.
