Flipkart, an Indian online retailer, has strengthened its supply chain network in Karnataka, creating over 14,000 jobs

28th August 2021, Mumbai:

Flipkart, the world's largest e-commerce company, has expanded its supply chain network in Karnataka with the inclusion of three additional facilities in time for the impending festive season.

Importantly, the programme is likely to result in the creation of roughly 14,000 new jobs. These new facilities, which are located in Kolar, Hubli, and Anekal, will cater to sellers of a wide range of products, including clothes. More than 10,500 merchants will benefit from the new facilities, which span roughly 7 lakh square feet and have a storage capacity of 15.6 lakh cubic feet.

The facilities were virtually inaugurated by Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, who stated that the expansion of supply chain infrastructure in the state, including North Karnataka, will spur economic activity and create large-scale entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.

He also promised Flipkart the full assistance of the government in its endeavour. Flipkart, which is owned by Walmart, said in a statement that the new fulfilment centres (warehouses) will help build deeper capabilities to support thousands of sellers, MSMEs, and small farmers in the state in order to meet rising customer demand, create more jobs, and enable faster deliveries for customers.

“In this journey, we have invested in a tech-enabled supply chain network that is helping create thousands of direct job opportunities across the country, as well as indirect job possibilities in auxiliary industries,” said Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of Flipkart Group. Flipkart, for example, has nine supply chain facilities in Karnataka, including fulfilment and sortation centres, that cover almost 23 lakh square feet and employ over 26,000 people directly and indirectly.
