Myntra’s Big Fashion Festival witnesses 14 million visitors

As per a Fashion Network report, e-commerce major Myntra’s ‘Big Fashion Festival’ witnessed around 14 million visitors in its platform on the opening day. The etailer witnessed 150 percent growth in kidswear, and 100 percent growth in beauty and personal care on day 1 of the event over last year. Myntra’s 50 percent shoppers on day 1 were from Tier II, III cities. Top Tier II cities leading on the first day of the Big Fashion Festival were Guwahati, Bhubaneswar, Dehradun, and Jammu, while Imphal, Aizawl, and Panchkula were leading tier 3 cities.

As per Amar Nagaram CEO, Myntra, customers shopped for 1.2 million products in the first 12 hours, making it the biggest festive event at Myntra to date. The event received a phenomenal opening response with over 2 lakh new customers participating in the Big Fashion Festival so far. This underscores the level of trust shoppers placing on the platform for the most immersive, convenient and safe shopping experience during this festive season. Myntra’s seven-day long ‘Big Fashion Festival’ started from October 16 and will conclude on October 22.

Aditya Birla Group to launch linen blended fabric

The Aditya Birla Group is launching a linen-blended fabric called Cavallo by Linen Club at a lower price point for Durga Puja.

The product will be available at 60 per cent of the price of Linen Club.

The Aditya Birla Group has already launched Cavallo Studio, its readymade range, on e-commerce, and it has got very good traction. Now it plans to launch this in the market, for bespoke tailoring. Besides, the company is making ready-made cuts of trouser lengths and shirt lengths and selling them as a combo. It is getting good traction on its overall EBO business.

The company also plans to introduce certain smart innovations on Linen Club. One such big innovation will hit the markets before Diwali. In its ready-made business of Linen Club Studio and Cavallo, it will soon launch its work from home range.

Amazon India strengthens storage capacity with new fulfillment center

Amazon India has strengthened its storage capacity in India with the launch of a new fulfillment center in the state of West Bengal.

The new fulfillment center is the company’s largest in the State with a storage capacity of 1.2 million cubic feet. With the addition of this new center, Amazon India’s infrastructure now stands at more than 3.4 million cubic feet across five fulfillment centers.

The new center is expected to help 25,000 sellers in West Bengal offer a wider selection and enable faster deliveries within the region and neighboring States ahead of the upcoming festival season.

This summer, Amazon India invested significantly in its logistics segment. In July, the business announced that it plans to add 10 new fulfillment centers to its warehouse network and expand five existing buildings.

The centers are used to sort customer order packages before they are then sent to delivery stations.

Payal Jain showcases women’s wear collection on Day 1, LMIFW

Designer Payal Jain showcased her new women’s wear collection ‘Holy Script’ digitally on the first day of the Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week. Inspired by Buddhist Thanka paintings and delicate femininity, the collection explores traditional jacquard techniques like Kadua and Katrauan woven in silk yarn. Its vibrant color palette of reds, yellows, greens, and blues is inspired by traditional Buddhist Thanka paintings

The romantic yet wearable silhouettes feature wrap-style necklines, sheer puff sleeves, ruffles, and maxi-lengths. Though inspired by resort wear, the collection has been designed for the festive season and features high-neck dresses gowns. Models showcasing the collection at LMIFW wore large tikas across their brows and natural makeup by fashion week sponsor Lotus Makeup. Some of them wore several thin braids in their hair, adorned with raw threads and cowrie shells to create a free-spirited and ethereal aesthetic.

Having launched her eponymous brand in 1993, Jain retails from her dedicated e-commerce store. The designer is known for her use of drapes and mixing fashion with art.

Metro Cash & Carry to open six small stores

Fast moving consumer goods business Metro Cash & Carry, which opened its first small-scale store in Tumkur, plans to open six more small-scale stores over the coming year to reach more customers.

Metro Cash & Carry, the Indian arm of German wholesaler Metro AG, plans to move from just large-scale, mainly business to business stores to incorporate small-scale business to customer stores into its retail strategy. The business’ first small scale store measures 25,000 square feet which around half the size of its large-scale stores.

Metro’s new Tumkur store will employ around 200 people around Tumkur, Karnataka. The store will focus on value products and Metro Cash & Carry private label brands which include a range of apparel offerings. This strategy is designed to help the store to reach break-even swiftly, according to Mediratta.

Metro Cash & Carry currently runs 27 stores in India with a strong presence in South India. The business retails a range of personal care, fashion and lifestyle, and homeware products as well as groceries.

Venugopal G Nair to be the new MD & CEO of Shoppers Stop

Venugopal G Nair has been appointed as the new managing director & chief executive officer of the company, effective November 6, 2020 to lead the next phase of expansion Nair replaces Rajiv Suri who announced his exit two years after being at the helm of the country's oldest department store chain.

Nair is an international retail leader with 27 years of rich and varied experience in the Retail & Apparel Industry across South Asia & Europe and presently, operating as CEO of Westside at Trent Limited. Prior to Westside, Nair was the MD of Marks & Spencer Reliance. In his earlier tenures, he has held leadership roles with various corporates Marks & Spencer Plc, Madura Garments and Arvind Mills.

Nair holds a Bachelor of Technology (Hon) from NIT, Calicut and an MBA in Marketing from S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research, Mumbai.

Nitin Bal presents collection inspired by Jalianwala Bagh Massacre at LMIFW…

The collection presented by designer Nitin Bal Chauhan on the first day of digital Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week was inspired by the Jallian Wala Bagh Massacre and mixed Victorian-style pomposity with modern, gothic subversion. The dynamic and dark collection included a dress made of metal rings, regency-style red tailored jackets, and pastel pink suits. It was accompanied by a thought-provoking video titled ‘Naevus’.

Despite its dramatic nature, the collection included a large number of wearable items including jackets and printed suits. It featured exaggerated collars and cuffs in white contrasted with metal hardware mouth gags and abstract, brutal makeup and face paint. Models on the ramp twirled around to show 360 degree detailing of the garments. The garments were painted with haunting illustrations and Chauhan’s signature 3D embroidery. Chauhan created a series of illustrations for the collection himself in charcoal with abstract, yet expressive shading.

Nitin Bal Chauhan retails his eponymous brand in multi-brand stores in Delhi, Tokyo, London, and Dubai, according to his Instagram. The designer was originally planning to showcase Naevus in March at LMIFW, but the show was postponed due to coronavirus.

Gauri & Nainika launch new collection at LMIFW

Womenswear design duo Gauri & Nainika launched their new romantic, whimsical collection on day two of Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week (LMIFW). The collection was a celebration of femininity, florals, and vintage charm with a few minimal style outfits thrown in.

The brand’s fashion film showed models in voluminous floral gowns. The aesthetic was given an edge through styling and accessories and models wore retro style victory rolls in their hair, chunky black boots and dark lipstick courtesy of fashion week sponsor Lotus Herbals makeup.

Other notable looks included sheer chiffon gowns with tiny polka dots and sculpted bodices and 1950s style dresses in white with red flowers. Several simply cut, neutral toned dresses also made an appearance paired with slouchy boots for a Grecian aesthetic.

Gauri & Nainika launched a dedicated e-commerce store in July in response to store closures due to coronavirus and an increase in the popularity of online shopping. The brand specializes in evening wear and launched in New Delhi in 2002.

Tata Group to buy Indian online retailers

Tata Group plans to beef up its e-commerce presence by buying Indian online retailers say media reports. The group has approached IndiaMart InterMesh a business-to-business marketplace, for a potential stake purchase. It also plans to target Supermarket Grocery Supplies commonly known as BigBasket, for future investments. The group is scouting for local e-commerce assets at a time when the race for Indian online shoppers is heating up.

Tata’s digital initiative will include an all-in-one e-commerce app will bring disparate online businesses of its entrenched consumer units under one umbrella. The businesses that Tata Group is targeting include Tanishq, Titan watch showrooms, Star Bazaar supermarkets, chain of Taj hotels and a joint venture with Starbucks Corp in India.

The expansion of Reliance Industries into technology and retail businesses has added urgency to Tata’s plans. Mukesh Ambani raised more than $20 billion this year by selling 33 per cent of his technology venture Jio Platforms to investors including Facebook Inc. and Google. His Reliance Retail Ventures has raised upto $5.1 billion from private equity and sovereign wealth funds in the past two months.

Namrata Joshipura mixes athleisure with glamor in her collection at LMIFW

Womenswear designer Namrata Joshipura presented her latest collection ‘Circle Back’ as a digital showcase on day one of Lotus Makeup India Fashion Week, mixing athleisure with dramatic glamour.

The collection was designed to be, contextually versatile: paired separates that straddle both high drama and athleisure. It contrasted ruffled blouses with body-con dresses featuring sheer panels and glitter embellishments to create a futuristic and sporty aesthetic with a touch of youthful, girlish charm.

The collection’s colour palette included black, silver, white, pale blue, and neon green and embellishments included sparkles and feather-like plumages which added drama. Accessories included metallic silver shoes and neon green visors to add to the collection’s sci-fi feel.

The video format showcased the collection’s detailed embellishments through closeup shots and the models’ makeup looks were showcased at the start of the show with sponsor Lotus Makeup. Models wore slicked back hair and black, smokey eyes with nude lipstick.
