Gaurav Gupta will host the Lakmé Fashion Week Grand Finale, which will include a collection composed entirely of plastic trash

05 Octtober 2021, Mumbai:

This year's FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week season will see Gaurav Gupta return to the runway as The Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale Designer.

This time around, the brand's mission is to "embracing change, stepping out of our comfort zones, and reinventing life as we know it."

The collection, dubbed #DefineToRedefine, attempts to redefine the runway finale by offering a design interpretation that was born in the sea.

Gaurav will create magic as he pushes Lakmé's beauty statement of #DefineToRedefine to the next level with Kareena Kapoor Khan as the showstopper in the finale collection, which is made completely of recycled ocean plastic.

Gaurav hopes to reduce carbon emissions and aid in the mitigation of climate change with this collection. He has utilized textiles made from crisp and biscuit wrappers, plastic bottles, and other everyday commodities that have been dug from seas and landfills to produce a portion of the collection.

“I am delighted to present our take of #DefineToRedefine on the runway for the Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale and make sustainability sexy,” Gaurav Gupta said of the collaboration.

Working with Lakmé Fashion Week is always exciting, and having Kareena Kapoor Khan as my inspiration just adds to the experience. The Lakmé Absolute Grand Finale is set to push boundaries in fashion and beauty this year more than ever.”

Gaurav's newest collection comprises couture, demi-couture, and ready-to-wear items, while new glamour emerges, challenging what is casual and what is extravagant.

Digital renderings and fabric research evoke a new style, drawing inspiration from the constant presence of aquatic life, coral, jellyfish, and fantastical creatures.

“As trendsetters, we at Lakmé are thrilled to be a part of this year's finale and to collaborate with Gaurav, who has such an edge design sense, which is ideal for this season's trend callout - #DefineToRedefine.

The theme for Lakmé Fashion Week 2021 is ‘Define to Redefine,' a notion that honors the spirit of neoterics, the capacity to radically redefine the way things are perceived and done, while also keeping in mind our newest offering.

Taking inspiration from this attitude of redefinition, ace designer Gaurav Gupta's collection will “put a spin on reinventing the way people look at fashion and couture as we know it by developing a collection created from ocean plastic waste,” according to Sumati Mattu, Lakmé's Head of Innovations.
