The Q1FY22 revenue of footwear major Bata India doubled to Rs 267 crore, as against Rs 135 crore it reported in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year. As per Fashion Network, the brand’s consolidated net loss narrowed to Rs 69 crore during the first quarter ended June 30, 2021, as against a net loss of Rs 101 crore it reported in the year-ago period. Its total expenses for the quarter rose to Rs 372 crore as compared with Rs 322 crore in the year-ago period.
Gunjan Shah, CEO opines, the brand’s agile contingency plan helped it navigate through the changing business landscape amidst infection surge. It was able to serve customers through alternate retail channels such as the company’s website, online market places, Bata Chat shop and Bata Store on Wheels. These channels enabled the company to minimize the overall impact of the second pandemic wave, he adds.
Bata India also strengthened its retail presence during the quarter by opening 7 new franchise stores to take its overall count to 234 franchise stores.
