Former tennis star Leander Paes walks the ramp for Abhishek Roy at 25th LFW X FDCI

Former Indian tennis star Leander Paes walked the ramp for fashion designer Abhishek Roy at the 25th Lakmé Fashion Week, held in collaboration with the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI).
Praising Roy's design skills, Paes emphasized on his connection to his roots in Shantiniketan. He states, through this collection Roy not just showcases India, West Bengal and Calcutta, but his studying, his fashion, and his learnings all go back to Shantiniketan, which makes him a true son of the soil.
Highlighting the intricate workmanship on the fabrics and the comfort of the outfits, he noted, these reflect the true essence of India.
Describing Roy's designs as ‘ethnic, Indian, comfortable, sporty, and chic,’ Paes said, fashion is an expression of one's roots and travels.
He mentioned several style icons in sports like tennis stars Maria Sharapova, Roger Federer, and the Williams sisters, who designed their own clothes. He also acknowledged Björn Borg as a past style icon.
Outside of tennis, he named David Beckham and Michael Jordan, as influential figures in sports fashion.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary, LFW X FDCI 2025 is being held at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai and concludes on March 30, 2025.
