The Woolmark Company: New online course on sustainability & wool

The Woolmark Company has launched a new online course on sustainability and wool for the textile and fashion industries.

At the Woolmark Learning Centre, the Woolmark Company has established the first online education course dedicated to sustainability. The new course gives students free access to a wealth of information on wool, sustainable development, and circular design.

The self-paced Sustainability and Wool course was created by industry professionals to help designers, marketers, manufacturers, tertiary students, and tutors support the industry's shift to less damaging product and business models using wool.

The free course also introduces students to the concepts, frameworks, and strategies that can be used to support sustainable and restorative business practices in the textile industry.

The course covers the theory and practice of circular design, regenerative agriculture, and manufacturing techniques with low environmental effects within the wool supply chain, with an emphasis on the wool fiber and wool industry.

"As a global community, we have the opportunity to change how we operate, to responsibly work within the planet's boundaries, and to respect and protect people throughout global supply chains," said Livia Firth, Co-founder and Creative Director of Eco-Age.

Learners will examine possibilities and solutions for developing goods with a more positive legacy, as well as how designers and companies can assist customers in reducing their environmental and social effects, throughout the course.

Throughout the course, industry experts such as Livia Firth, Clare Press, Charles Ross, Leanne Kemp, Dr. Stephen Wiedemann, and Dr. Charles Massy offer special insights into the problems and potential of sustainability in the textile and apparel industries.

"With the design stage determining 80% of a garment's overall impact, this course will provide designers and brands with information on how to use wool to meet sustainable development targets and align to sustainability commitments," said Julie Davies, The Woolmark Company's General Manager for Processing Innovation & Education Extension.

Learners will get a scientific grasp of sustainability and be introduced to the information and tools that will help them establish resilient businesses during this dynamic, complicated period by finishing this course.

Learners will receive an independent Credly certification to place on their digital CVs once they have completed the course.

The Woolmark Learning Centre is a web-based center that includes free world-class educational resources about wool for learners of all levels, including those entering and those currently working in the global textile sector.
