To capitalise on the fast-growing athleisure market in the country, Reliance Retail plans to launch a large-scale stores under a new brand name. The company currently sells athleisure products through some of its existing brands such as Clovia.

The new retail concept will also enable Reliance Retail to compete with global corporations entering the Indian market. As part of this development, the company will open these stores in Indian malls and on high streets, with their sizes ranging from 8,000 to 10,000 sq ft. The retailer will initially focus on large cities for these stores.

Sportswear and accessories have continued to gain popularity in India, particularly among the urban middle class, since the pandemic sparked a new interest in health. French sports apparel and gear business Decathlon has rapidly expanded in India to capture some of this market, with over 100 stores in 19 states.
