Demand from Tier II, III cities boosts festive sales on Flipkart, Amazon: RedSeer Consulting

06 October 2021, Mumbai:

Demand from Tier II and III cities have given a boost to festive season sales of e-commerce majors, Flipkart and Amazon. Flipkart saw 40 percent sales growth on account of early access granted by the 'Flipkart Plus' program. Similarly, e-tailer saw a 45 percent rise in demand from Tier-II cities and beyond.

Amazon India saw a 60 percent increase in sellers who recorded their highest-ever single-day sales year-on-year on the platform, reveals Manish Tiwary, Vice-President. The month-long ‘Amazon Great Indian Festival’ kicked off with millions of customers buying from small sellers listed on Amazon.in, including local shops, start-ups, and brands, artisans, weavers, and SMBs. Competition between the two giants is expected to be intense, with Flipkart's The Big Billion Days Sale and Amazon India's Great Indian Festival (GIF) running concurrently. While Flipkart's The Big Billion Days (TBBD) sale is an eight-day event that will end on October 10, Amazon India's GIF will be a month-long affair.

Both e-commerce platforms have lined up new launches and offer to woo shoppers during the festive season. They plan to hold multiple sale events around Dussehra and Diwali. As per RedSeer Consulting, both these platforms are expected to register 30 percent year-on-year growth in gross GMV to $4.8 billion during the festive season.
