BGMEA: EU garment import during Jan-Sep'22

19 December 2022, Mumbai

So far the import figure of the EU indicates a good position of Bangladesh’s apparel in EU markets.

Bangladesh remains the second largest source of clothing for Europe with a 22.56% share while China tops the position with a 29.04% share.  EU imported USD 22.59 billion worth of clothing from China during the first nine months of 2022 while the year-on-year growth was 25.19%.

EU’s imports from Bangladesh increased by 43.21% and reached USD 17.56 billion during the mentioned period compared to the same period in 2021, whereas EU’s imports from the world grew by 27.87%.

Being the 3rd largest apparel import source, the EU’s import from Turkey reached USD 9.19 billion with 14.86% year-over-year growth. On the other hand, the EU’s imports from India increased by 25.85%.

Among the top ten apparel suppliers to the EU, Bangladesh attained the highest growth. Other countries having significant growth were Cambodia 41.08%, Indonesia 33.46%, and Pakistan 30.76%.

The brand sees huge potential for growth in the coming years and is eyeing a million customers over the next two years with a target revenue of Rs 100 crores.

TTBC office opens @ BGMEA

BGMEA is one of the lead partners in the Partnership for Cleaner Textile (PaCT) project.

The new office of the Textile Technology Business Center (TTBC) opened on 20th November 2022 at BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka.  

Her Excellency Ms. Winne Estrup Petersen, Ambassador of Denmark to Bangladesh; His Excellency Mr. Anne Van Leeuwen, Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh; Mr. Martin Holtmann, Country Manager, IFC; and other representatives from Embassy of Denmark and the Netherlands were present during the opening ceremony.

The Dutch Government, particularly the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh came forward to support the project which eventually proved its success through all the impacts that it demonstrated in the past decade.

One of the key deliverables of the PaCT project is to establish a knowledge center named ‘Textile Technology Business Center (TTBC)’ which will serve as the one-stop knowledge hub for the textile and clothing sector.

The TTBC will promote resource-efficient technologies such as a low liquor ratio dyeing process, new generation dyes, and chemicals, advanced ETP technologies, cogeneration, etc.

VDMA TFL: Incoming orders & turnover sustainably grows

18 November 2022, Mumbai:

"The mood among manufacturers of Textile Care, Fabric, and Leather Technologies is largely positive," said Elgar Straub, MD of VDMA Textile Care, Fabric and Leather Technologies at the trade association's industry meeting in Brussels. "Despite the enormous increase in energy costs, the still existing problems in the supply chains, and the still unforeseeable consequences of the war, the industry representatives report well-filled order books.".

Orders and sales of the German manufacturers of Textile Care, Fabric, and Leather Technologies are still on a growth course: in the period from October 2021 to September 2022.

The most important export market from a German perspective was Poland, followed by Italy and France.

Incoming orders increased by 37 percent in real terms and sales are also positive for the technology manufacturers with a growth of 14 percent compared to the previous year.
