Notable takeaways from the Indian cotton sector organized by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) on Oct. 7 celebrating 'Global Cotton Day' during an informative & inspiring virtual event: India’s cotton production may reach 43 million bales (170 Kgs each) by 2030.
The way the cotton scenario is stacked, "In the decade ahead till 2030, India (25 percent), China (22 percent), USA (15 percent) and Brazil (10 percent) in that given fashion is expected to dominate the world cotton production table likely to reach 28.4 million tonnes (mt), whilst five (5) China, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Vietnam Asian growers — will constitute close to 75 percent of the total mill consumption (28.3 mt) during the given period of time, as per the latest OECD-FAO report on Agriculture Outlook 2021-2030 has to forecast".
However, as per the OECD-FAO report, the following downside risks remain valid such as shortage/ land constraints, water crisis, the threat of climate change, deadly pests, and disease attacks besides looming stagnancy of yields/ poor to low productivity & efficiency are likely to pose real challenges.
