In India, Amazon has surpassed the ten-thousand-seller threshold
16 December 2021, Mumbai:
Amazon India claims to have more than 10 lakh retailers on its platform, with over 4.5 lakh new merchants joining in the previous two years. Small and medium businesses (SMBs) account for over 90% of the company's sellers, with half hailing from tier 2 and 3 cities and beyond.
"It's heartening to see Amazon's role in enabling small local businesses across the country, including local offline retailers and neighborhood stores from across India, who are adopting e-commerce and placing their trust in Amazon to grow their business by selling online, participating in last-mile deliveries, joining assisted shopping, and more," said Manish Tiwary, vice-president Amazon India.
"As we look to the future, we remain dedicated to our goal of digitizing 10 million small businesses, including the omnipresent dukaans." "We are certain that Amazon will play a key role in propelling India's digital economy toward its USD 1 trillion goals," Tiwary added.
Over the last several years, Amazon has made significant investments in strengthening its seller base in the nation, launching multiple programs such as Launchpad, Saheli, and the Global Selling Program to assist onboard new vendors to the platform.
