In the wake of the Covid-19 rise, FMCG companies such as Dabur are stocking up and securing logistics

10 January 2022, Mumbai:

As the Omicron variety of Covid-19 spreads across India, increased retail constraints are prompting fast moving consumer goods retail sales to climb once again as companies like Dabur India prepare their stock and logistics.

"We're also utilising last year's learnings on optimising the supply chain to guarantee minimal supply delays," Dabur India CEO Mohit Malhotra told the Press Trust of India. "We've already begun stockpiling needed inventories to minimise any supply and commodities problems owing to the current wave."

"In the case of a third wave, our apartments are additionally outfitted with oxygen concentrators to address any emergency." We will take all required precautions to protect our employees' health."

Another issue for FMCG merchants is the growing cost of various raw materials. Inflationary pressures on Dabur India's inputs have prompted the company to stockpile raw materials to avoid supply chain disruptions or product shortages in the coming months.

The company, which sells a variety of personal care products, has also beefed up health and safety precautions in its manufacturing facilities and readied its supply chain to handle increasing demand and stress.

Despite the fact that the third wave caught many shops off guard following a strong comeback towards the end of 2021, lessons gained from the first and second waves suggest customer behaviour is simpler to forecast and businesses can better prepare. Because a full lockdown does not appear to be in the cards, stockpiling and panic purchasing are unlikely to approach the heights seen during the first wave.
