Iluna Group attends Première Vision with its "Smart Lace System" based on high-tech finishing, responsible materials and certified partnerships

05 February 2022, Mumbai:

Legend has it that a sailor brought his beloved a seaweed from distant seas as a gift. The woman, wanting to preserve its beauty, replicated the design and holes with needle and thread. And so lace was born.

Since that moment, lace has lived within the walls of churches and castles, visited race tracks and catwalks, changing shape and color according to seasons and times.

Among the companies involved in writing a new chapter in the history of lace, Iluna Group definitely stands out. Founded in 1970 from an idea of its founder Luigi Annovazzi, over the years Iluna has been able to respond to the challenges posed by the market in terms of technology and sustainability, transforming them into opportunities for growth and becoming a virtuous example to be followed by the entire supply chain.

A spokesperson for aesthetic and responsible innovation in the lace industry, since 2017 Iluna has been using only sustainable and certified ROICA™ stretch yarns from the ROICA Eco-Smart™ family, while the percentage of sustainable references has risen from 3% in 2018 to 52% in 2021. When numbers matter.

Première Vision | Global events for fashion professionals

From athleisure to fashion, via underwear, from sarongs to bodysuits, through evening and bridal gowns, up to the world of denim and high fashion, Iluna's lace continues to expand its applications, confirming its extreme versatility, remarkable performance and inimitable beauty. Trends run and pass quickly, but Iluna lace remains a certainty in all its forms, variations and colors.

There are four main proposals presented by Iluna Group during Première Vision: Flock in flounce or allover entirely made with recycled ingredients and equipped with endless printing possibilities, with 3D and multicolor effects that allow the inclusion in fashion, underwear and athleisure looks. All certified GRS (Global Recycled Standard).

Continued investment in both the Green Label and Bioline, two collections totally dedicated to innovative and responsible aesthetics. Both include lace made with the responsible 6.6 polyamide yarn Amni Soul Eco® and the degradable stretch fiber ROICA™ V550, combined with natural vegetable dyes with OEKO TEX and GOTS certifications.

The novelties shown at Première Vision confirm Iluna's commitment to creating products with a high level of creative design and environmental responsibility thanks to a technological and corporate system that covers the entire perimeter of production, from materials to processing, dyeing and finishing.

Saitex opens its fabric mill, outside of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

03 February 2022, Mumbai:

Saitex has opened its new fabric mill, near its cut and sew factory outside of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Encompassing 100,000 sq m, the mill has created 630 jobs to date and plans to have 20 per cent of jobs dedicated to people with disabilities, an initiative first started in the cut & sew factory to create upcycled merchandise for the Rekut product line.

Building upon the recent opening of the “Factory of the Future” in Los Angeles, CA, and its renowned denim facility in Vietnam, the integration of the mill into the Saitex value stream grants unprecedented control and traceability of a garment’s life cycle.

Saitex’s “seed to shelf” approach to manufacturing starts with close partnerships with cotton farmers, utilizes eco-efficient spinning, weaving, and dyeing machinery, and incorporates a production creation center (PCC) with the capability to create and prototype garment samples on-site.

Through Saitex’s vertically integrated operations, brand partners are now offered one of the most sustainable and transparent “seed to shelf” processes, globally.

The Saitex Mill was constructed with a roof that reflects sunlight, installed natural ventilation, and used materials that adhere to LEED Gold Certified specifications.

The solar panel system consists of nearly 15,000 panels with 3-4 MW capacity, which equates to 2,000+ tons CO2 reduction yearly. Additional energy is derived from industrial sludge which is used to generate 40% of the facility’s steam power.

Karl Mayer: New perspectives through precise lace symmetry

08 February 2022, Mumbai:

Symm-Net articles made using the new MJ 92/1 B impress with their perfectly symmetrical appearance Lace is a delicate seducer.

The more finely crafted its ground structure, the more effective its refined designs come across, and as such, the higher the overall quality. The innovative Symm-Net pieces, which can be produced on KARL MAYER’s new MJ 92/1 B, have a look that sets new standards.

Lace offering maximum clarity and balance Symm-Net lace is characterised by an extremely delicate design, offering absolute symmetry. This is thanks to the particular configuration of the MJ 92/1 B – the new multi-bar jacquard raschel machine features a split-design jacquard bar with separate threading, and can thus work using both equal and counter lapping.

New perspectives through precise lace symmetry - Middle East Africa Textile News - Kohan Textile Journal

In addition, the newcomer has two ground guide bars at the back for counterlapped elastane. For Symm-Net’s ground structure, GB1 works a pillar notation whilst the jacquard bar works a counter-lapped inlay.

The result is a net structure with absolutely symmetrical, clearly defined symmetry. To perfect the geometry, the two elastane bars with split threading – i.e. 1 in, 1 out – and counter-lapping patterning mirror the movement of the jacquard bar.

The lapping patterns thus look as follows: • JB 91: 0 – 0 / 2 – 2 // and JB 92: 2 – 2 / 0 – 0 // • GB 93: 0 – 0 / 1 – 1 // and GB 94: 1 – 1 / 0 – 0 // The ground structure is not only more uniform, but also more stable than its counterparts manufactured with equal lapping.

The advantages of Symm-Net are particularly visible when working finer mesh constructions.

DOORS OPEN TO SPRING FAIR ON SUNDAY WITH THE RE-LAUNCH OF POWER OF ONE AND AN IMPRESSIVE FOCUS ON SUSTAINABLE BRANDS

05 February 2022, Mumbai:

The doors to Spring Fair, the UK’s largest and longest running wholesale marketplace encompassing the best in home, gift and fashion, open this Sunday 6th until Wednesday 9th February welcoming thousands of buyers and showcasing tens of thousands of new products and innovations.

Its organisers, Hyve Group plc, has announced the re-launch of the Power of One campaign and a renewed focus on sustainability with an impressive number of sustainable and ethical brands showing.

Building on the shows Empowering Change manifesto, visitors will also discover a host of inspiring and educational interactive activations onsite.

How Sustainable Brands Boost the Productivity of Employees

Successfully launched in 2018 by Hyve Group’s fashion trade show Pure London to galvanise the fashion industry into taking collective action, the Power of One initiative is being adopted across all of Hyve Group’s B2B events in the form of three powerful pledges created to help energise retailers to take small steps to change the world, their mental health, and their environment.

Suzanne Ellingham, Head of Content, Hyve Group plc says; “Power of One is all about small changes leading to big differences. We hope we can use our influence across key retail sectors in a positive way to help effect change in the industry.

We have created three simple but impactful pledges to encourage the circular economy, combat overproduction, and prioritise wellness. Conscious decisions are the future of retail and Power of One is here to help shape that future, one decision at a time.”

  • Pass It On puts the circular economy under the microscope and encourages consumers to give their best-loved items a second lease of life, thus reducing the impact on finite resources and encouraging customers to seek sustainable alternatives.
  • Do You Need It combats overproduction at the source and really showcases the power that small steps have to make a huge change.

Visitors to Spring Fair will be introduced to the Power of One pledge on activation walls which also enable donations to Spring Fair’s wellbeing and charity partner the Retail Trust in support of the Checking In pledge.

There will be bins at all entrances for visitors to recycle their show badge.

The bins are set up as a voting system so visitors can choose where to post their badge and it will vote for the pledge they want. Pre-registered visitors have been asked to bring their own reusable water bottles and use the water stations positioned around the show

The Sustainability Trail returns for 2022 and highlights the many brilliant brands and suppliers striving to do their part to ensure a more sustainable and ethical future for all.

From sourcing materials and manufacturing to the final product and packaging, brands and suppliers are shifting their focus and the Sustainability Trails enables them to celebrate and highlight this with hundreds of brands taking part.

Nike & Hermès File Lawsuits for Trademark Infringement: non-fungible tokens (NFTs)

06 February 2022, Mumbai:

Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but not when it comes to the increasingly lucrative market of digital collectibles. Determining what crosses the line into wrongful conduct can be a tricky matter, as two separate legal actions may show.

Nike (NKE) is the latest to file a lawsuit, accusing online sneaker reseller StockX of selling unauthorized images of its shoes in the form of non-fungible tokens (NFT).

In the lawsuit filed Friday, Nike accuses StockX of minting and marketing NFTs containing trademarked material without authorization or approval. Nike wants to block further sales and is asking for unspecified monetary damages.

4 Ways of Making Money With Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs) - The European Business Review

In a funding round led by Altimeter Capital in April, StockX raised $255 million at a $3.8 billion valuation, which might come in handy in its legal fight.

Another high-profile case involves the French luxury designer brand Hermès, which filed suit against Mason Rothschild on Wednesday after it created NFTs of Hermes' famous Birkin handbags, called “MetaBirkins.”

For the moment, the MetaBirkin NFTs have been removed from the OpenSea marketplace after Hermès served Rothschild with a cease-and-desist letter, reports The Fashion Law.

With the recent trend of luxury fashion brands launching NFTs expected to gain momentum through 2022, so will the heavy scrutiny on NFTs imitating those brands. Of the StockX case in particular, Trace Schmeltz, co-chair of the Fintech Practice Group at law firm Barnes & Thornburg, expects the company to respond to the Nike suit by claiming “fair use” because each NFT sold is just a digital version of the physical shoes purchased by customers.

Speaking more generally about the idea that artists might seek First Amendment protection in the U.S., Schmeltz says artists need to establish that what they are doing is, in fact, art.

“To say that your work is protected as art, like [Andy] Warhol’s use of the Campbell’s Soup label, misses the fact that the First Amendment gives less protection to commercial speech, particularly when it infringes on intellectual property rights.”

ITALIAN TEXTILE MACHINERY: ORDERS GROW AGAIN IN 2021 FOURTH QUARTER

04 February 2022, Mumbai:

The index of orders intake for Italian textile machinery for the fourth quarter of 2021, processed by ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machinery Manufacturers, showed a 43% upturn compared to the same period in 2020.

In absolute terms, the index stood at 127.9 points (base 100 in 2015). This growth was spurred on by both the Italian and foreign markets.

ACIMIT Admits Slowdown In 2018 Textile Machinery Sale | Textile Excellence - Textile & Apparel Newspaper / Magazine

More specifically, domestic orders were up 83% compared to the period October-December 2020, for an absolute value of 234.6. Orders collected abroad grew by 36%, for an absolute index value equal to 116.4.

On an annual basis, the index of orders intake increased by 95%, for an absolute value of 128 points. The increase in orders abroad was 79%, while orders collected for domestic market were up 204% compared to what was observed in 2020.

Alessandro Zucchi, president of ACIMIT, commented the results of the survey: "We’re experiencing a recovery in the sector that we didn’t quite expect.

Production has returned to pre-Covid levels, while foreign demand has been robust in most markets, and in Italy it has benefited from the Government Transition 4.0 incentives."

However, the many orders to be filled are now a cause for concern, given the scarce availability of components and raw materials due to the interruption of supply chains. Added to this is the sharp rise in the cost of energy.

KARL MAYER's SwapKnit: 1st Smart Machine function

01 February 2022, Mumbai:

Patterning from the cloud SwapKnit – KARL MAYER's first Smart Machine function revolutionizes the way of guide bar control.

A view of machine data from anywhere and at any time, service support as if on site but from far away, patterning from the cloud: digitalization offers completely new possibilities in warp knitting, which KARL MAYER is using to offer its customers a wide range of advantages for their business.

Karl Mayer : Warp knitting patterning from the cloud

In doing so, the world market leader is pursuing a well thought-out strategy: coordinated innovation activities are being used above all to rethink aftersales support and machine maintenance, and to develop coordinated offers in three areas. These are Care Solutions, Digital Solutions and Smart Machine.

Smart Machine comprises special functions that are backed by KARL MAYER's expertise and enable customers to maximize their productivity. In addition, a previously unattainable reproducibility of quality is possible.

A first solution for this is SwapKnit.

The new patterning concept manages completely without pattern discs, but still enables the high operating speeds typical of mechanical guide bar drives. The basis for this is the networking of the machine via the k.ey device with the KM.ON cloud.

Speed of operation and pattern change SwapKnit can be used for the production of new or tried-and-tested articles with pattern repeats of up to 36 stitch courses.

The required lapping data is acquired with just a few clicks in KARL MAYER's WEBSHOP SPARE PARTS and loaded directly from the KM.ON cloud.
