India’s retail sales grew by 26 per cent in September 2021 led by strong growth in South India at 33 per cent, followed by East at 30 percent, and 26 per cent in West.
North India sales grew by 16 per cent As per Retail Association of India's Business Survey-Round 20, retail sales reached 96 percent of the pre-pandemic levels in September this year compared to the same month in 2019,
Consumer durables and electronics, food and groceries, and quick service restaurants (QSR) categories grew in double digits on pre-pandemic levels.
However, categories such as beauty and wellness which include salons, footwear, and jewellery are yet to catch up to the pre-pandemic levels of sales, adds Kumar Rajagopalan, CEO, RAI Dussehra and Diwali could well be the turnaround time for retail businesses, provided there is no third wave of the pandemic, he adds further.
