Flyrobe touches a million customers

29 December 2021, Mumbai:

Fashion rental business Flyrobe has crossed one million customers. The business services customers in 30 Indian cities and is back on track with its rental business after a lull in weddings due to the pandemic.

With increased consumer awareness of garment rental services and a greater focus on sustainable fashion in the Indian market, Flyrobe is confident of continued growth.

The main customer base is people attending weddings as such events often require an outfit that will be worn only once and is expensive.

However, many weddings were postponed in 2020 and early 2021 due to Covid restrictions, which meant people had less need to rent formal wear. For Flyrobe, a single wedding can yield around 200 orders for high-ticket garments. So the lull in weddings had a significant effect on the business’ finances.

Flyrobe had to lay off people, shut down stores. But as the next few years are predicted to see India’s fashion rental market grow significantly, Flyrobe is expecting positive growth in 2022. Flyrobe also has stores in Bangalore and New Delhi.

Several start-ups that began online have also set up an offline presence. In going online to offline, while the core of the business remains online, offline stores act as a sales touchpoint and a way of brand building.
