Ikea India builds two centers in New Delhi

10 December 2021, Mumbai:

The mall's division of Swedish furniture giant Ikea will invest around Rs 7,000 crores in two centers it plans to build on the outskirts of New Delhi. Ikea’s malls business, one of the world’s biggest, is building two centers - malls that are anchored by its stores - in Gurugram and Noida, two large cities on the periphery of the Indian capital. This is beyond the investments that are happening in retail.

The mall in Gurugram, which will house office space beside an Ikea store, is expected to be operational in 2025.

The company, which opened its first store in India in 2018, has opened its first city store in Mumbai, the first of its kind in the country. Smaller than a full-size Ikea store and located in the business district of south-central Mumbai, the store has a selection of the company’s vast inventory of home products.

The city store in Mumbai’s Worli will be 80,000 sq ft, whereas the traditional big Ikea blue box is typically 4,00,000 to 5,00,000 sq ft. The new store will offer customers the entire Ikea range based on a well-integrated digital and physical shopping experience. This is a new concept for customers to shop with Ikea.
