Raw Mango launches 'animal-centric range'

13 December 2021, Mumbai:

Raw Mango has launched a collection with Sujan. The rampant destruction of wilderness and the animal kingdom by humans was a concern for both. They wanted to create a conversation about the idea of co-existence and mutual respect between all life forms through the medium of design, which they began working on in 2018.

The perception of wildlife has been human-centric, and one that places humans above all other life forms to serve their own purpose and needs. The resulting impact of this one-sided relationship has caused rapid endangerment and extinction of species worldwide, including in India.

This collection highlights humanity’s relationship with nature and wildlife while raising awareness for India’s critically endangered animal life.

The collection Sher Bagh re-imagines Banarasi silk brocade with a mélange of animal forms intermingling with humans, sometimes separate, sometimes as one single entity, pulls at themes of coexistence between mankind and nature.

Animals allow for an infinite exploration of textiles and embroidery.

With Sher Bagh, the animals are literally woven with human figures. Traditionally, hunting scenes are shown on textiles with the power balance resting on the human.

Sher Bagh revisits this through eleven animals - humans included – woven into a story of coexistence. Sher Bagh re-imagines Baranasi silk brocade textiles through highly experimental weaves that feature a mélange of animal forms intermingling with humans.
