Sabyasachi stores resort to appointment-only as Covid-19 third wave emerges
06 January 2022, Mumbai:
Luxury traditional wear, accessories, and jewellery brand Sabyasachi has reverted back to in-person appointments only for its stores, despite strong demand, as Covid-19 cases spread rapidly across India.
“Sabyasachi stores across the country will remain open for limited in-person appointments only,” the brand announced on Facebook. “Keeping in mind the escalating cases, the health and safety of our community remains our leading priority. We thank our customers, artisans and employees for their patience, support and understanding at this time.”
Sabyasachi has flagship stores in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Kolkata, which all fall under its new opening schedule. The brand also retails with multi-brand luxury retailers in various metros (and London, UK) which will follow their own opening schedule. The brand’s website is also under renovation but Sabyasachi’s products are also available online on Elahe’s e-commerce store.
Sabyasachi also recently launched its latest fine jewellery collection in Dubai at multi-brand store Bayt Damas, Gulf News reported. After making its debut in Dubai in the boutique last autumn, Sabyasachi added to its fine jewellery selection there ahead of the upcoming wedding season.
“When the pandemic ends, there’s going to be polarisation when it comes to consumption of things,” designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee told Gulf News this week. “Some people will play safe, others will be reckless.
I had a reverse problem during the pandemic. We had more demand than supply. But I am a responsible entrepreneur so my factor was operating in a fragmented capacity… We have been refusing orders worldwide… Some are heartbroken… When one has to choose between life and livelihood, life comes first.”
