Sahiba-owned apparel brand for women ‘Saundh’ has opened its first brick-and-mortar store in India in Bengaluru.

Spread across 750 sq ft, the new store launched with five capsule collections from the brand.

Titled, ‘Ganjifa,’ ‘Cheriyal’, ‘Gond’, ‘theyyam’ and ‘Khaas,’ these five collections offer designer-wear clothing including Kurtis, kaftans, lehengas, tops, and indo-fusion sets.

Popeye the Sailor Man has launched a new Popeye x Wrogn men’s apparel collection in collaboration with Indian cricket star Virat Kohli.

The collection offers a range of 28 T-shirts featuring classic poses of the spinach-eating sailor paired with the graphic Wrogn logo.

It also features tie-dye detail, an oversized Wrogn logo, etc.

There was a preference for bespoke or customized clothing in India long before ready-to-wear apparel made inroads in the domestic market.

However, the entry and growth of international and domestic fashion brands in the 1990s gave rise to the ready-to-wear clothing culture in the country.

Yet, there are many who prefer made-to-order clothes. They demand a better quality and fit in their garments over traditional ready-to-wear clothes that could often be ill-fitting.

US imports, children's clothing: Jan 2022 report

22 March 2022, Mumbai:

According to the most recent OTEXA statistics analyzed by Apparel Resources, the United States' imports of children's clothing totaled $237.91 million in January of this year.

In January, imports increased by 11.06 percent year over year, and four of the top six nations shipping children's clothing to the United States increased their cargo values.

China continues to be the leading exporter of children's clothing to the United States, with shipments totaling $ 62.54 million in the first month of 2022, and a 19.73 percent year-over-year rise.

In terms of kidswear exports to the United States, India and Cambodia remained ahead of Vietnam, despite the latter's decline!

Narendra Goenka, AEPC: India on track becoming world's largest garment manufacturer

25 March 2022, Mumbai:

According to Narendra Goenka, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), India's surpassing of $400 billion in goods exports heralds the start of an age of exponential expansion and global supremacy.

In particular, in 2021-22, Indian garment exports were able to enhance their position in traditional export destinations such as the United States, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, and France.

The Indian textile sector is on track to become the world's largest manufacturer in the next three years, thanks to an emphasis on man-made fiber (MMF) garments, sustainability, and free trade agreements.

"Indian exports reaching $400 billion is not only a tremendous achievement but will also prove to be a benchmark in the history of India's global commerce," he said in a statement.

The growth rates will be exponential from here on out, owing to our Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visionary leadership.

"In 2018-19, India easily eclipsed its all-time high of $330 billion in exports.

Given the government's efforts to expand domestic industrial capacity, sign trade agreements, and foster a new entrepreneurial spirit in India, I predict goods exports to exceed $500 billion in 2019 fiscal," he said, adding that Indian garment exports are also expected to rise exponentially.

With programmes like RoSCTL, PLI, and PM-MITRA, the government has laid the groundwork for rapid expansion in the garment industry.

These will help to boost production, employment, and export capability in one of the industries with the greatest female workforce.

Following the successful return of British Wool training courses in 2021, British Wool has launched the 2022 Shearing & Wool Handling courses this week.

For over 20 years British Wool have provided four stages of shearing certificates enabling UK shearers to safely and effectively shear British wool.  Training the next generation of shearers and wool handlers remains a key focus for British Wool with over 850 attending courses in 2021.

Those booking courses will be done using British Wool’s new online system that is easier to use and navigate.

TM Lewin,UK goes into administration

22 March 2022, Mumbai:

TM Lewin is on the verge of collapsing! The British online menswear company has gone into administration two years after it was launched in a pre-pack transaction.

Around 49 jobs have now been jeopardized as a result of this. The business also lost 600 employees in June 2020, after closing its outlets as part of a pre-pack administration.

Will Wright and Chris Pole (from Interpath Advisory) have been named joint administrators of TM Lewin, which is crucial to note.

Tirupur Exporters Association – popularly known as TEA – was established in the year 1990. This is an Association exclusively for exporters of cotton knitwear who have production facilities in Tirupur. From the modest beginning TEA has grown into a strong body of knitwear exporters.

Today, TEA has a membership of 1076 Life members and 155 Associate Members. The members of the Association, from the beginning, have resolved to develop their organization focusing on Multilateral growth of knitwear industry and exports Development of infrastructural needs for Tirupur.

TEA, Tirupur: Knitwear exports contributed 1% of India's exports in FY22

Li Ning denies the claims made by US Customs and Border Protection

23 March 2022, Mumbai:

Following US authorities' decision to detain Chinese sportswear manufacturer Li Ning's goods on the grounds that the company employs North Korean labor in its supply chain, Li Ning has struck back, calling the claims false and deceptive.

The US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is holding products created or manufactured by Li Ning at all US ports of entry as a result of its inquiry.

CBP said in a statement that such product would not be allowed into the country unless the importer presents clear and persuasive proof that it was not made using prison labor, forced labor, or indentured labor under criminal punishment within 30 days after being detained.

The item might be seized and forfeited if the corporation fails to present clear and persuasive proof within this window.

"As a professional sports brand firm," Li Ning added, "the Group has a robust corporate governance framework in place, fully complies with China's laws, regulations, and compliance rules, and respects ethical standards."

Bangladesh Lingerie and shapewear exports: US market,Jan 22 report

22 March 2022, Mumbai:

Bangladesh’s lingerie and shapewear export in the USA witnessed good growth in the first month of 2022. According to the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA) data, Bangladesh exported $16.62 million worth of lingerie and shapewear in January 2022.

Witnessing a 14.31% growth in the first month of 2022. Which was $14.54 million in January 2021.

Bangladesh’s manufacturers making inroads into lingerie – thanks to the ever-changing global market and better margins.

Bangladesh’s garment producers are rushing into the lingerie void left by China (the country’s lingerie export only grew by 9.61%).

Among the top exporting countries, China exported $89.08 million worth of brassieres/foundation garments to the USA. With 9.61% Y-o-Y growth.
