Tending to the evolving needs of the advertising industry in the post-lockdown era, Media Expo is set to introduce an entirely new product category on labelling and packaging technology at its next edition in Mumbai.

Slated to be held in May, the trade fair will unite buyers and industry stakeholders for product sourcing and B2B interactions. Media Expo has consistently proven to be a leading exhibition for advertising and creative field professionals to converge, network and build trade alliances.

It has been home to some of the latest technology showcases in printing, signage, retail displays, finishing and fabrication as well as consumables and media. The quality of labelling and packaging is one of the crucial factors that can influence a consumer’s buying choices and makes a significant difference in today’s world where brands are constantly competing against each other.

Media Expo’s new product section will encompass various label printing technologies and materials for the flexible printing and packaging segments, giving business visitors a much broader value and brand new variety of products to include in their arsenal of branding tools.

Leading manufacturers of large-format printing technology, HP India and Mehta Cad Cam will be introducing their most advanced labelling and packaging production technologies for the very first time on the show floor of Media Expo.

Commenting on the changes ensuing in advertising sector, Mr Raj Manek, Executive Director and Board Member, Messe Frankfurt Asia Holdings Ltd, shared: “The manner in which advertising and brand content is consumed and perceived has drastically changed over the last few years.

Today, digital and physical advertising mediums have become two-sides of the same coin and go hand-in-hand in delivering better reach and impact of a brand over its audience.

Nonetheless, just as digital advertising keeps evolving, it is also crucial for the physical advertising segment players to keep discovering new technology and channels to suit the preferences of modern consumers.”

Ludhiana MSME Association: Apparel Sector seeks tech upgrade from the next Punjab government

18 February 2022, Mumbai:

Facing major competition from industries located in other states, the micro and small units dealing in the garment and textile products in Ludhiana have pinned high hopes on the next Punjab government to equip them with the latest technology by starting new schemes.

Harish Kairpal, president of Ludhiana MSME association, said, “The garment and textile industry of Ludhiana which at one point of time was the leader in the country is now lagging behind other states.

Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme for textiles gets nod

That happened as the newer units which came up in other states especially in South India adapted latest technologies. We therefore demand from the new government which comes to power in March should pay special attention to technological upgrade of the existing units in Ludhiana and support us financially to adopt new machinery and technology.”

Narinder Mittal, general secretary of Ludhiana Business Forums, said, “Textile and garment units of Ludhiana are fast becoming uncompetitive as compared to similar units in other states.

The cost of production of textile and garment industry in other states is decreasing due to adoption of new technologies. We have already suffered a lot as significant percentage of the total business of Ludhiana’s garment and textile units has been taken over by the industry from other states.

It’s high time that the state government takes appropriate measures like starting unconditional technology upgrade fund scheme for old units so that we can easily adopt new techniques.

Atul Saggar, general secretary of Apparel Manufacturers Association Ludhiana, said, “The new state government can save garment units by subsidising purchase of new machinery and opening a technology upgrade centre which can guide the garment units about the latest technologies.

This centre should also give assistance in buying and setting up new machinery.”

The garment sector applauds the India-UAE CEPA, claiming that it will enhance apparel exports and jobs

21 February 2022, Mumbai:

The Indian garment sector has praised the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between India and the United Arab Emirates, believing it will enhance apparel exports and create jobs. The signing of the CEPA, according to Narendra Goenka, Chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC), would further cement India's dominance in the UAE.

"With $1,515 million in garment exports to the UAE compared to $3,517 million in total imports, Indian apparel exports account for 43% of overall imports. The trade agreement will result in a 5% reduction in the import tariff on Indian clothing.

"This would further reinforce Indian apparel's leading position in the UAE," he added. The chairman emphasized that the government has taken a number of steps to enhance exports and create jobs in the country.

The CEPA is expected to increase demand for a variety of Indian clothing goods. T-shirts, shirts, baby clothes, trousers, and briefs will all see an increase in exports in the knitted garment area. Women's dresses, tracksuits, baby clothes, pants, shorts, shawls, scarves, and veils will profit the most from the woven garment category.

However, in order to assess the real benefit that the CEPA may provide to India, a number of considerations must be taken into account.

"Not all of the things that are in strong demand in the UAE are India's main export capabilities." "The import demand of certain RMG items in the UAE, manufacturing strength/export capability of Indian businesses in these products, and acceptance of Indian products into the UAE are the important criteria that will decide the level of gain from CEPA," he added.

"When we trace the export chain, we discover that our garment exports to the UAE also serve Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, and the United Kingdom."

"The UAE has a vast retail market with participants from all across the value chain, including significant western fashion chains and wholesale buyers from North Africa and the Middle East," he explained.
