06 December 2021, Mumbai:
Much of Bata’s new store additions in the next two or three years will be through the franchise route. The festive season worked well for Bata and consumer confidence has been returning in the metro cities as well.
In the second quarter the footwear major clocked in a profit after tax of Rs 37.1 crores compared to a loss of Rs 44.3 crores in the year ago period. Revenue from operations for the quarter was Rs 614 crores that signified healthy and consistent recovery since the opening of the lockdown. It was at Rs 368 crores a year back.
While the company worked on increasing its digital interface with customers, it also prepared for their return to stores. Simultaneously, it was getting ready for a time when the wave would be out of the way and consumers would want to walk back into the stores. So it worked upon getting stores in the right location and getting refurbishment done where required.
The basic theme that Bata followed through the pandemic was dealing with empathy as far as employees were concerned while maintaining agility and preparedness.
The footwear manufacturer and retailer has laid extensive emphasis on product innovation followed by a revised retail proposition in line with the global imagery and premiumization of the brand.
