ABFRL & GIZ launch textile innovation challenge

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL), in collaboration with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), Centre for Environment Education (CEE), and GIZ Leverist, has launched the ‘Circularity Innovation Challenge 2023’ to create a platform for innovators in the textile and apparel industry to develop innovative solutions.

What all you need to know

The challenge will feature eight categories, and shortlisted innovators will have an opportunity to pilot their innovations. The initiative aims to introduce circular economy models at an industry level through the groundbreaking work of innovators.

ABFRL and other industry players can leverage circular business principles with GIZ’s support to implement technically superior and consumer-friendly procedures. The Challenge is open for virtual applications until April 25th, 2023, on the Leverist platform.

ABFRL & 1M1B: India’s 1st Green Jobs & Sustainability Accelerator

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL) and 1M1B (One Million for One Billion) have launched India's first Green Jobs and Sustainability Accelerator program for Climate Change action. The partnership aims to mobilize and equip 1 million youth with the skills and mindset needed to contribute to the fight against climate change.

The program, piloted in January 2023 with participation from over 545 CBSE schools, will be scaled up and operational in over 25,000 schools and colleges from April 20, 2023.

"The youth of today are the driving force behind the green future of work and workplaces," declared Dr. Naresh Tyagi, CSO of ABFRL, and Co-Chair of the Green Jobs & Sustainability Accelerator.

"India, with its vast talent pool, has the incredible potential to channel its youth towards green jobs through initiatives like the Green Jobs & Sustainability Accelerator," emphasized Erik Solheim, Advisor to 1M1B & former ED of UN Environment & Under Secretary General of the United Nations.

The Sustainability Accelerator program will introduce students to the role of technology in shaping a greener planet and provide them with workplace experiences and internships at ABFRL to learn about sustainable practices.

The curriculum, designed by 1M1B, will focus on Climate Change Action and equip students with valuable perspectives and skills that can be applied in the workplace to positively impact the environment.

As part of the initiative, ABFRL will offer internships and workplace experiences to 20 students, and the top student team will have the opportunity to present their work at the annual 1M1B Youth Summit at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The program aims to create a sustainability mindset among the youth and promote social responsibility, reflecting ABFRL and 1M1B's commitment to advancing sustainability and climate change action.
