Lingerie, accessories, and beauty brand Victoria’s Secret has launched a dedicated e-commerce store for the Indian market in partnership with franchisee Major Brands. The website focuses on its range of beauty products.

Victoria’s Secret’s new India e-commerce store features its line of fragrances, handbags and accessories, beauty products, and ‘Pink Beauty’ brand. The website does not currently stock its lingerie range. The web-store stocks a range of luggage and passport covers in its ‘Travel Store’ segment and fragrance gift boxes in its ‘Gifts’ section.

“While the brand enters the market with a digital focus on the beauty business, Victoria’s Secret and Major Brands have confirmed plans to launch [a] full assortment lingerie brick and mortar stores in Mumbai in Summer, 2022,” said Victoria’s Secret in a statement, Man’s World India reported.

Campus Activewear, a sports shoe brand, plans to raise as much as Rs 1800 crore ($250 million), through the proposed initial public offering (IPO), according to people familiar with the matter.

The Mumbai-based company, whose backers include US-based PE fund TPG, plans to submit its draft red herring prospectus (DRHP) on Friday, one of the persons said.

Campus plans to sell about 16 per cent stake, through a secondary route. Existing investor TPG will sell about 10 per cent stake, another investor QRG will sell 2 per cent and promoters will sell about another 4 per cent stake.

Campus is considering seeking a valuation of about Rs 11,000 crore ($1.5 billion), one of the persons said.

Besides private equity fund TPG Growth, the family office of the promoters of Havells Group– QRG Enterprises Limited also holds a minority stake in Campus. Both hold together about 25 per cent stake in Campus, acquired in 2017 at a valuation of Rs6000 crore.

ET first reported on Campus Activewear’s plans to float Rs 2000-crore IPO in June. Kotak Mahindra, JM Financial, Bank of America and CLSA are the lead managers for the IPO.

“We are considering listing the company in the medium to long term and it's honestly too early to comment on any specifics on valuation, size and structure,” Nikhil Agarwal, CEO, Campus Activewear had told ET. Spokespersons with TPG, QRG declined to comment.

The overall footwear market in India is Rs60,000 crore, of which sports and leisure shoes are about Rs 10,000 crore. Campus holds about 15-20 per cent market share in India, while Reebok is the leader with 45 per cent market share.

Metro Brands Ltd., the footwear retailer backed by veteran investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, listed on Wednesday at Rs 437 apiece, a 13 per cent discount to its IPO price of Rs 500. Currently, Metro shares are trading at Rs 481.6, at a market capitalisation of Rs 13,075 crore.

In 1983, HK Agarwal founded the ‘Action’ brand, a household name in the casual and sports footwear segment in India. Later in 1997, the Campus brand was launched. The company reported a revenue of Rs 718.2 crore in FY21 compared to Rs 732 crore a year ago. EBITDA of the company stood at Rs 117 crore, compared to Rs 136.3 crore a year ago.

Campus Group’s revenue grew at a CAGR of 15 per cent over FY15-FY21. The revenues remain prone to seasonality with the majority of sales generated over August-December; the winter season in north India, according to India Ratings.

Campus strengthened its brand presence during FY21 by increasing exclusive brand outlets as well as expanding its presence in the online segment. The brand already benefits from a healthy presence in north India and is now focused on expanding in other regions as well. During FY21, CAPL expanded its distribution network to 350 distributors.

Major footwear brands in India are Bata India, Relaxo Footwears Limited, Liberty Shoes, Khadim India, Nike, Adidas AG and Puma.

India is the second largest producer of footwear globally, accounting for 13 per cent of the global footwear production, next to China, which dominates the global footwear industry accounting for close to 67 per cent of the market, according to the Council for Footwear, Leather & Accessories.

However, the average per capita footwear consumption in India continues to be low at 1.66 pairs per annum in comparison to the global average consumption of 3 pair per annum and developed countries' average of 6-7 pairs per annum.

Verandah, a Mumbai-based line of a conscious luxury resort and swimwear has raised US$ 1.1 million in a seed funding round. Marquee investors include Mike Novogratz (CEO, Galaxy Investment Partners), Neeraj Arora (former CBO, WhatsApp), Lydia Jett (Partner, SoftBank Vision Fund), PDS Venture (PDS Multinational Fashions’ venture tech portfolio), and other significant supporters in the financial community across New York and Mumbai.

Funds raised will be strategically used to expand Verandah’s global market penetration and product range.

The global luxury sector is currently at US$ 346 billion and projected to grow to US$ 403 billion by 2027, with the US dominating demand currently at US$ 95 billion. This growing segment has been attracting a lot of investor attention in recent times and Verandah’s funding is in line with this development as well.

The brand will use the funding to set up its next phase of growth within the US and international market, as it looks to scale and add product extensions.

Founded in 2012 by Anjali Patel Mehta, Verandah makes joyful, boho-luxe, chic, fuss-free print and story-based travel separates, using ultra-soft and artisanal fabrics and hand embroidery from India.

A local brand for the first few years of its existence, Verandah has now pivoted into a story-based luxury resort label. It is based in Mumbai with its partners and teams across New York and Italy. The brand has just launched its global direct-to-consumer e-commerce site based out of the United States this month.

The 15th edition of Myntra’s biannual EORS, the nation’s mega fashion carnival, is round the corner, offering shoppers across the country the opportunity to upgrade their wardrobes ahead of the New Year.

EORS will go live in the wee hours of 18th December and up to 23rd December, offering the biggest EORS collection of 1 million styles from over 5000 brands.

The 6-day event is slated to cater to the fashion, beauty, and lifestyle needs of over 40 lakh unique customers across the country with the demand expected to rise by 2.5X of BAU days. With over 20% higher traffic over the previous winter edition,.

Experts say the listing may get affected by the current market sentiment, fear of fresh Covid restrictions amid rising Omicron cases, and higher valuations.

Mumbai-based footwear retailer Metro Brands will make its debut on the bourses on December 22, making it the 60th listing in 2021. Experts largely feel the listing will be impacted by the current market sentiment, spooked by fears of fresh Covid restrictions amid rising Omicron cases, as well as higher valuations.

The public issue of the company saw lower-than-expected subscription demand as the offer was subscribed 3.64 times between December 10 and 14. Qualified institutional buyers showed the most interest among investors, as their reserved portion was subscribed 8.49 times.

Non-institutional investors had put in bids for 3.02 times the allotted quota, while the retail portion was subscribed 1.13 times. Metro Brands has mobilised Rs 1,367.5 crore through its public issue of 2.73 crore equity shares at Rs 500 per share.

The offer consisted of a fresh issue of Rs 295 crore, and an offer for sale of Rs 1,072.5 crore by the promoters. "Considering lower-than-expected subscription demand for its initial public offering (IPO), we expect a flat listing in a best-case scenario.

We believe the reason for the low subscription and premium would be investors' concerns over aggressive pricing (on annualized FY22 earnings, the asking price is at a P/E of above 150x) and the volatile market scenario," said Prashanth Tapse, Vice President (Research) at Mehta Equities.

AR glasses, waterproof VR glasses, haptic bodysuits, and tactile gloves, according to the newest Ericsson Ten Hot Consumer Trends study, might all be part of customers' shopping bags in 2030.

Consumers will seek a hybrid mix of connectivity-enabled technology blended into real-world physical surroundings to better shopping and buying experiences as the 2030s begin, according to the report. This might include virtual beauty treatments and avatars for changing rooms.

This conclusion is based on the opinions of millions of early technology adopters throughout the world, who were asked to rate 15 hybrid shopping mall facilities that use digital technology to enhance the physical customer experience. Almost four out of five respondents anticipate that by 2030, all 15 topics examined will be available in some form.

Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), and programmable materials will be used to allow such "bricks-and-portals" amenities, according to the paper.

"On the one side, it may be impossible to picture vast numbers of consumers using pricey tech gear such as AR glasses, waterproof VR glasses, haptic body suits, tactile gloves, and more at massive scale by 2030," stated Dr. Michael Björn, Head of Research Agenda, Ericsson Consumer & IndustryLab.

On the other hand, if such equipment could be shared at a lesser cost, a huge number of consumers may benefit from it to improve their ordinary shopping mall experiences.

"In fact, 35 percent of consumers polled believe shopping malls are more likely than residences to have next-generation technology, while just 14 percent disagree. Many shopping malls now include theatres, game arcades, music halls, bowling alleys, and other high-tech amenities.

They'll very certainly keep playing that role." The survey also reveals consumer confidence that hybrid malls "may positively and sustainably contribute to local life," according to him.

That's something that's becoming increasingly significant in the context of shopping malls, with a rising number of news stories describing how malls are being altered post-pandemic to better reflect the populations they serve.

"If anything, the future may become more localized, with 32% of respondents thinking that high-tech retail malls would make migrating to small towns and rural regions more viable and appealing – and only 13% objecting," Björn said.
