Business-to-customer shopping fair Garden of Eden by Inayat will bring together luxury fashion and jewellery brands in Ludhiana from February 19 to 20 at the city’s Sutlej Club.

Curated by entrepreneur, influencer, and designer Inayat Dhanda, the Garden of Eden shopping fair will feature around 70 luxury brands. The majority will be from from the Ludhiana area with some travelling in from further afield. The majority of products will be for the spring/ summer season with numerous bridal wear options for the spring wedding season as well.

The event aims to cater to Ludhiana’s luxury shoppers and will take place at the Sutlej Club which has a membership base of over 3,500 families. The shopping fair expects around 4,000 visitors over the course of its two-day event, according to its 10Times events page.

Among other designers and brands, the exhibition will feature jewellery by Ayat Silver Jewels, the event announced on Facebook. The brand will present its latest designs including statement necklaces featuring precious stones.

The event last took place in October 2019 and was on a temporary hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The event’s return will see all Covid-19 health and safety measures followed as per local regulations.

Couturier Tarun Tahiliani and the Aditya Birla group (ABFRL) have joined forces to launch a men’s traditional wear brand called Tasva. This is a brand inspired by India’s culture and history, especially Benaras which is a confluence of vibrant colors and hues and is poetically on the banks of the Ganges.

Tahiliani is known for his opulent traditional wear for both men and women, which retails through his eponymous brand, and for his bridal couture.

Tasva’s ready-to-wear line encompass the same refined yet heavily detailed and luxurious aesthetic and craftsmanship that Tahiliani has become known for but pared down to retail at a more accessible price-point. Tasva combines the fit Tahiliani is known for with Aditya Birla’s expertise in fabrics, factories, distribution and manufacturing.

Aditya Birla has ambitious retail expansion plans for Tasva and aims to open between 50 and 70 brick-and-mortar outlets across India in a year.

Tahiliani launched his eponymous brand in 1990 and currently has flagship stores in New Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata. The brand is also available through multi-brand retailers in Nigeria, Japan, and the UK.

The designer’s outfits are inspired by refined living, elegance and Indian royalty. What sets him apart from other contemporary designers is his unique ability to coalesce western and modern designing with the craftsmanship of Indian artisans and weavers.

Twenty models with disabilities have taken to the catwalk in Ivory Coast in a ground-breaking assault on taboo and stigma. Decked out in a red suit, traditional Sahelian boubou robes, multi-coloured African bogolan prints, and a blue tunic with printed motifs, the models showed off the latest creations of Abidjan designers in an event dubbed "Strong and Beautiful Together."

Grace Beho had her right forearm amputated after a road accident. Six months ago, she created the Mougnan Foundation, an organisation set up to improve the quality of life for disabled Ivorian women. Its name means "moving forward despite difficulties" in the Guere language of western Ivory Coast.

"I think that the women who are going to be watching us and who do not yet have confidence in themselves... are going to assert themselves and show themselves to the world as they are," she said as she stepped off the stage.

Leslie Antsere, who suffers from neurofibromatosis, a genetic disease that can cause disfiguring tumours, said she was delighted to take part in an event that had stopped her from "feeling ashamed."

The MC at the fashion show, Nelly Aka, was sporting high heels despite a foot disability. "Even in a situation of disability, we can go beyond ourselves and do many things," she said.

"Overcoming disability is about accepting yourself -- the way people look at you and criticise you will not affect who you are," she said.

A model called Sylvia, dressed in a green-and-white dress, opened the show, coming down the catwalk on crutches by the side of a swimming pool in front of an enthusiastic audience in a hotel in the Ivorian economic capital.

The event took place on December 3 -- the UN's International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

- 'Marginalised' -

Officially, Ivory Coast has 453,000 people who are disabled in some way, two percent of the population. For them, such an event is unheard of.

"Even mentioning a disabled person in the world of beauty is taboo in Ivory Coast," said Ange Prisca Gnagbo, one of organisers of the special evening.

"They are sidelined in all the beauty shows," she added.

But such practices are entrenched in Ivory Coast, where disabilities are often viewed -- as elsewhere in Africa -- as an affliction.

"Many disabled women are very vulnerable, rejected, and marginalised. So they hide away for fear of being judged," said sociologist Yves Ouya.

For Dr. Abdoudramane Coulibaly, consultant at the World Health Organization and head of a disability NGO, the issue also faces a lack of political will.

"Let's suggest to able-bodied people that they walk with crutches for a day -- (that way) we will be gain more understanding than with big speeches," he suggested.

"My dream is that in the coming decades I will see a handicapped person making a name for himself or herself in areas where the doors have been closed," said Beho.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee, a well-known fashion designer, posted details of Katrina Kaif and Vicky Kaushal's Haldi ensembles on Instagram on Saturday. The wedding of Vicky and Katrina took place on Thursday at the Six Senses Fort Barwara in Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan, while the Haldi ceremony took place on December 8.

We can't get enough of Vicky and Katrina's Sabyasachi-designed pure white dresses, and if you loved them too, here are the specifics. Katrina looked stunning in an ivory organdy lehenga embroidered with gota and tilla. She wore it with a Kiran-trimmed organza dupatta with gota and marori embroidery. Vicky, on the other hand, donned a khadi kurta and salwar with embroidered details.

Vicky and Katrina wore the same shade of white for their Haldi ceremony, which looked to be the motif. Katrina accessorized her Haldi ensemble with floral jewelry, including jhumkas and bangles made of Tagar Kali flowers, as well as beads and pearls. More information on her jewelry may be found here.

"Shukr. Sabr. Khushi," Katrina and Vicky captioned separate Instagram posts featuring their Haldi photos. Sabyasachi also created Katrina's and Vicky's wedding gowns. Katrina chose a traditional red lehenga with a delicate tilla design made of handwoven Matka silk.

It has velvet borders with intricately stitched renaissance zardozi embroidery. Vicky Kaushal, on the other hand, looked stunning in an ivory silk sherwani with marori embroidery, silk kurta, and churidar.
