Launch of the TCLF Pact for Skills : putting people at the heart of the industry’s competitiveness

17 December 2021, Mumbai:

Brussels, 16 December 2021 – 118 organisations signed today the TCLF[1] Pact for Skills , an initiative promoted by the European Commission and coordinated by EURATEX.

The signatories acknowledge the skills challenge in the textiles ecosystem and commit to investing in reskilling and upskilling workers, integrating green and digital skills, and improving the attractiveness of the sector.

Members of the Pact will benefit from networking, guidance, and resources offered by the EC to implement the targets which are proposed in the Pact.

The Pact for Skills is part of the EU Industrial Strategy, addressing the competitiveness of 14 critical ecosystems, including textiles. The main aim of the Pact is maximising the impact of investments in improving existing skills (upskilling) and training in new skills (reskilling).

To reach such an ambitious goal, the Pact gathers various actors in the TCLF sectors: industry, employers, social partners, national and regional authorities, education and training providers.

These actors should work together and invest in large-scale skills partnerships, guarantee the exchange of best practices and increase the attractiveness of the sector.

Specifically, the TCLF Pact for Skills focuses on 5 objectives and for each of them, the signatories identified a certain number of target actions:

  1. Promoting a culture of lifelong learning for all: one of the actions is to design and roll out courses promoting latest technologies and digital tools such as VR and AI (digital skills) and promoting durability, repair and waste management activities (green skills), in particular circular design skills.
  2. Building a strong skills partnership with relevant stakeholders: signatories foresee to build regional and cross-sectoral partnerships between industry, education providers and authorities, which are adapted to their specific needs. .
  3. Monitoring skills supply/demand and anticipating skills needs: to reach it, industry, policy and education stakeholders will establish the TCLF Skills Observatory.
  4. Working against discrimination and for gender equality and equal opportunities: signatories will launch a TCLF manifesto of diversity and supporting initiatives to improve the gender balance and ensure equal opportunities for all.
  5. Raising awareness & attractiveness on the TCLF industries, i.a. through dedicated information campaigns, showcasing the opportunities in the sector, and promoting mobility for young workers.

As of early 2022, the European Commission will offer signatories of the Pact for Skills to benefit from collaboration at EU, national and regional levels and in particular gain access to networking, knowledge and guidance & resource hubs.

“EURATEX is proud to coordinate this initiative,” says Alberto Paccanelli, EURATEX President. “Our companies’ success is based on finding the right people with the right set of skills.

This becomes increasingly difficult, so this Pact is a wake-up call to work together and develop a forward-looking strategy, where people are put at the heart of our sector.”

PHYSICAL & SAFE: MUNICH FABRIC START & BLUEZONE ALMOST AT PRE-PANDEMIC LEVEL

17 December 2021, Mumbai:

The team of the Munich Fabric Start Exhibitions GmbH has dedicated the last weeks to the finalisation of the upcoming MUNICH FABRIC START from 25/01 - 27/01/2022 and BLUEZONE from 25/01 - 26/01/2022: the new measures for safe events have been implemented; the organisers are ready to welcome the industry in Munich in just a few weeks.

And the current status is impressive: more than 600 suppliers from 33 countries are registered for MUNICH FABRIC START, including around 90 international denim suppliers for BLUEZONE.

The visitors can expect safe and inspiring trade shows with fully booked halls at almost pre-pandemic level!

“We are overwhelmed: we will be able to offer more than 600 exhibitors and thus around 1,100 collections a physical platform at the upcoming MUNICH FABRIC START and BLUEZONE.

This impressive current status and the enormous support from the industry is in this exceptional situation a milestone and anything but a matter of course.

Despite the great planning uncertainties, we are highly motivated to offer the industry a safe and inspiring trade show at the end of January – to build on the success of our two shows that were already realised during the pandemic." Frank Junker, Creative Director MUNICH FABRIC START

Safe show days thanks to a proven hygiene concept and the so called 2G+ rule The organisers are very aware of the great social responsibility and of course always place the health and safety of all participants at the top. At the moment, the so called 2G+ regulation is planned, whereby only vaccinated and recovered people with an additional valid Covid-19 test will have access to the exhibition grounds.

The extensive hygiene concept, which has already been proven at the last trade shows, is regularly adapted to the dynamic requirements. MUNICH FABRIC START says Hello EVERY.BODY The trend theme for Spring.Summer 23 – EVERY.BODY – stands for a new feeling, even a new definition of individuality and community.

In the search for optimism, a new balance and an individual self-image, our industry meets with a newly learned cosmopolitanism and tolerance.

There is a longing for personal exchange and the tactile experience of textiles – exactly what is missing without trade shows. In addition, it is about collecting new information and inspiration, without a screen or headphones.

PHYSICAL & SAFE: MUNICH FABRIC START & BLUEZONE ALMOST AT PRE-PANDEMIC LEVEL

Heimtextil from 11 - 14 January 2022 is cancelled

15 December 2021, Mumbai:

Against the background of the worsening pandemic situation in Germany over the past two weeks and the associated restrictions, Heimtextil, scheduled to take place in the second week of January, is canceled.

Messe Frankfurt is working with the industry to determine whether and in what form a new offering in the summer of 2022 can be organised to run parallel to the Techtextil/Texprocess trade fair duo. Later events such as Ambiente, Christmasworld, Creativeworld, Paperworld, and Frankfurt Fashion Week are still planning to take place at the present time.

Due to the unforeseeable dynamics in the development of the pandemic, the reciprocal and cumulative effects of the relevant factors, as well as the extreme escalation and deterioration of the pandemic situation in Germany within a very short period of time, including the decisions taken at the Conference of Minister Presidents on 02.12.2021, the date of Heimtextil right at the beginning of the year, in the second week of January, cannot be kept. Heimtextil, the leading international trade fair for home and contract textiles, will be cancelled.

Messe Frankfurt is working closely with all industry partners to find out whether and within what framework Heimtextil can be held parallel to Techtextil and Texprocess from 21 to 24 June 2022.

Heimtextil as an international trade fair has always kicked off the spring trade fair season and is the first major international trade fair in Germany directly after Christmas and New Year with exhibitors and visitors from over 135 countries.

The exponential increase in the number of infections in a very short period of time and the accompanying multitude of developments and resolutions that are clearly outside the realm of influence of the organizer have led to a significant deterioration in the general conditions and necessary requirements for holding Heimtextil as a major trade fair of international relevance at this early stage.

These developments include in particular the classification of Germany as a high-risk area and the associated travel warnings, international and intercontinental travel restrictions in India, Japan, the United States, and Great Britain, as well as the quarantine obligation and “2G” (only with vaccinated and recovered status) requirements without recognition of the WHO vaccine list in Germany.

Equally important are the steadily rising infection figures and the accompanying urgent appeal, including by the Robert Koch Institute, to reduce contacts to a minimum and to cancel all major events.

A large number of the exhibiting and visiting companies at Heimtextil are currently reacting to this with travel and trade fair attendance bans out of an obligation of concern towards their employees to protect them from health risks. The global willingness to travel is continuing to fall rapidly.

The planning and staging of the other spring trade fairs Ambiente, Christmasworld, Creativeworld and Paperworld is not affected. Due to their later dates in the year, at the end of January and mid-February respectively, these fairs are still planning to take place at the present time.

Compared to Heimtextil, which is the most international trade fair at the Frankfurt location, Frankfurt Fashion Week currently has a much lower international profile and from this perspective can therefore still take place. The extremely volatile situation is continuously reviewed and evaluated in close exchange with the relevant authorities and industry partners.

Woolroom join British Wool’s Traceable wool scheme

13 December 2021, Mumbai:

Leading on-line retailer of wool products for the sleep environment, Woolroom has recently joined the British Wool traceable wool scheme.

Chris Tattersall Managing Director of Woolroom explains “We are delighted to have partnered with British Wool on our traceable wool programme, Wool ID, in our mattress and bedding ranges.

As the largest supplier of British wool they were always the logical choice however what impressed me the most was the level of detail that they go into when grading their wool.

Having seen this first hand across a number of depots this gives me the utmost confidence that the wool we are using in our products is the best and most appropriate available ensuring our products perform to the highest standards over their lifetime.”

He continued “At Woolroom we are committed to supporting the hard-working British farmer and this partnership allows us to do just that.

Not only are we connecting consumers with the farmer through our Wool ID branding and innovative QR codes on the finished products, we are also helping to ensure the farmer receives a premium payment for their wool.”

Woolroom pay a premium over and above the British Wool auction price for the wool they procure, this is in turn returned to the relevant farmers.

Graham Clark, Director of Marketing at British Wool commented “This is a significant step forward for British Wool’s traceable wool scheme and we are delighted to have Chris and the team at Woolroom on-board.

The traceable scheme which we launched at the start of the season has been working very smoothly through our network of depots, this has allowed us to facilitate this new partnership with Woolroom.”

He concluded “With significant growth planned over the next few years including ambitious plans for the US market we look forward to growing the business with Woolroom and being able to make a premium traceable wool payment to more farmers as we move forward.”

Iluna Group and Maglificio Ripa announce a strategic partnership in the name of sustainable fashion

14 December 2021, Mumbai:

Iluna Group and Maglificio Ripa announce a strategic partnership in the name of sustainable fashion

A single vision, shared values, a constant push for innovation, and above all a deep dedication to sustainable fashion - the real one. Iluna Group and Maglificio Ripa announce a strategic collaboration, each maintaining its own identity and independence, based on the complementarity of the proposal and the convergence of intentions for a new and more functional way of partnership.

Iluna Group, a leader in the production of smart lace, and Maglificio Ripa, internationally recognized for the production of premium and responsible jersey, both established in common sectors - from underwear to beachwear and sportswear - formally launched this collaboration during the MarediModa show in Cannes with a joint double stand where visitors could discover the latest collections of the two companies and also imagine new designs and solutions for sustainable fashion.

THE COLLECTIONS ILUNA GROUP SS 2023

Iluna's journey into the new dimension of responsible quality continues with ad hoc developments in GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified recycled yarns aimed at unprecedented effects in look, performance, and feel.  In terms of cords and shiny yarns, there has been an expansion of the range of GRS yarns that until now have only been available in opaque.

The precious cord yarn has a ROICA™ EF core, GRS certified and developed with 50% pre-consumer recycled content, double covered with a shiny yarn equally recycled. The brilliant and translucent one is used instead to add shiny effects, which were not possible with a GRS yarn until now.

From this constant search for innovation towards new materials and new techniques that are increasingly sustainable, the printing processes were born: GRS certified sublimation printing and register printing with Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. The latter overlaps exactly with the design and colors the details, reaching where dyeing cannot.

Finally, with BIOLINE, Iluna embraces the circular economy and presents proposals that combine AMNI SOUL ECO® polyamide 6.6 yarn, which degrades in about 5 years after disposal, and ROICA™ V550 sustainable stretch yarn which, once disposed of, degrades in a smart way without releasing harmful substances into the environment, according to Hohenstein's Environmental Compatibility Certification.

ROICA™ V550 also carries the Gold Level Material Health Certificate from the Cradle-to-Cradle Product Innovation Institute, which evaluated the yarn's impact on human and environmental health. Finally, Iluna features an exceptional range of natural colors made from flowers and plants and a color chart with 16 shades - but still expanding. All dyes are GOTS certified and their colorfastness meets the requirements of OEKO TEX® Standard 100.
