BrandMan Retail has acquired the retail arm of American sportswear brand New Balance in India. New Balance sells products like performance-oriented shoes and apparel. New Balance is an iconic brand synonymous with performance and aesthetic.

With growing focus on sports and fitness in India, BrandMan sees a huge potential in expanding presence across the country with a long-term sustainable growth strategy. The retail solutions provider, based in New Delhi, will represent the company’s presence in India via omnichannel retail, taking over from earlier India partner, Major Brands.

BrandMan has already set up retail stores for the company in malls across India. New Balance will grow its presence across India with key retail players like Shoppers Stop, Lifestyle, among others. They will likely have 35 points of sales across India before the end of fiscal 2021-22. The company will also retail online. New Balance would be available for retail across standalone stores as well as shop-in-shop models. It will also have an extensive online presence across the BrandMan's website as well as on Nykaa and Tata CLiQ. New Balance is based in the United States.

India's retail sector was estimated at $883 billion, with grocery retail accounting for $608 billion. The market is projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2024.

Puma, the sportswear company, has expanded its retail footprint in North India, adding its largest shop in the region and the country's second after Bengaluru.

The store, which is located in Delhi-Cyber NCR's Hub, is 7,000 square feet and houses limited-edition worldwide collaborations as well as a sports collection for men, women, and children.

World boxing champion MC Mary Kom, Olympic bronze medalist in hockey Rupinder Pal Singh, Indian cricketer Washington Sundar, and singer Harrdy Sandhu all attended the store opening.

"It has always been our endeavour to not only create an immersive shopping experience around the brand and the products but also strengthen our market relevance by staying ahead of the curve in the smart retail era," said Abhishek Ganguly, managing director of Puma India and Southeast Asia, in a statement.

"Opening our flagship shop in Delhi-NCR is a testament to our dedication to the region's sportsmen and fitness aficionados."

"As part of both our offline and online retail channels, we are equally dedicated to offering the finest digital experience," he said. Puma has seen significant success in India in recent years and aims to continue to increase its presence there.

Lifestyle and accessories brand WK Life expects sales revenue of Rs 75 crore ($10 million) by end of next year. The brand has strengthened its retail presence by opening new stores across the country. It has already crossed the 100 franchise stores mark and plans to further expand its presence in Tier II, III cities in the coming months.

WK Life will also diversify its offerings across categories and plans to sell locally produced items to increase its customer base in India. The brand currently imports most of its products.

WK Life also sells online through its website and e-commerce platforms like Amazon, Flipkart, and others. The brand currently gets around 10 percent of its Rs 25 crore sales from online and aims to increase it to 25 percent through tie-ups with various e-commerce platforms.

To start off the wedding season of 2021, DLF Mall of India, the country's largest mall, has organised a two-week-long "Wedding Shopping Festival."

Over 80 wedding-centric companies will be hosted inside the mall during the shopping event, ranging from the trousseau, ethnic clothes, accessories, footwear, skincare, and cosmetics to gifts and décor, among others.

FabIndia, a leading ethnicwear shop, has received flak for its 'Diwali' collection, dubbed 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz.'

Netizens are using the hashtag #BoycottFabIndia to protest the company on Twitter. FabIndia released information about their current collection, 'Jashn-e-Riwaaz,' which was published in Vogue.

"As we celebrate the festival of love and light, Jashn-e-Riwaaz by FabIndia is a collection that wonderfully pays respect to Indian culture," the business said on their official social media accounts.

After receiving negative feedback, FabIndia has since removed the initial tweet.

Tejasvi Surya, the Member of Parliament for Bengaluru South Lok Sabha and the national head of the BJP Yuva Morcha, also protested the apparel brand's marketing campaign on Twitter. FabIndia, he added, "must bear the economic price of such willful blunders."

Manipal Global Education Chairman Mohandas Pai also chastised the brand for its choice of language. "Maan, you don't get it!" he tweeted. The use of alien words for a Hindu celebration is a deliberate attempt to destroy and pervert our history! You may use any brand name after Diwali, but connecting it to Diwali at this time indicates a twisted attitude!

Reliance Industries’ unit Reliance Brands (RBL) will buy a 40 percent stake in MM Styles, owned by homegrown designer Manish Malhotra. This will help the company drive growth for the 16-year-old couture label in India and overseas, and establish the Manish Malhotra brand as a global couture powerhouse.

As per a Live Mint report, the two will expand the brand into a larger lifestyle consumption category and grow into other adjacent categories while retaining the brand’s positioning in the occasion and wedding wear market.

Over a career spanning three decades, Malhotra established himself as Hindi cinema’s leading costume stylist and luxury couturier. Currently, the designer runs four flagship stores in the country, apart from two shop-in-shops.

The move marks a shift in Reliance Brands’ strategy. After 14 years of bringing global premium and luxury Western brands in India, Reliance Brands will now focus on homegrown designer labels.

Reliance Brands houses more than 60 brands, a bulk of them international, and has a retail footprint of 595 stores and 744 shop-in-shops in India.

Its portfolio comprises largely foreign brands such as Brooks Brothers, Burberry, Hamleys, Hugo Boss, Hunkemoller, Iconix, Jimmy Choo, Kate Spade New York, Michael Kors, Steve Madden, Superdry, Scotch & Soda, Tiffany & Co., and Tory Burch.
